You may not remember....but you really don't hear anyone else saying it. I'm the ONLY one teaching this to anyone because of my intensive studies of language and culture. And it requires intensive studies of both to know this.
Christian Religion is kinda unique. It requires a knowledge of ALL the sciences as well as language arts to really understand the scriptures. That blend of both is called Hermeneutics.
And even though we have a ton of preachers....not many actually go through the exercise of studying ALL the sciences when studying scriptures. And then many get too literal and miss out on the literary arts when teaching scriptures.
Just not a lot of people who speak plainly anymore who can explain some really complicated to study subjects....explained 5,000, almost 6,000 years ago.
Disobeying and even assaulting parents was common in the land at that time, as well as the other sins, and was as serious in God's mind as any other. Obedience to the commandments would set Israel apart and above all other nations.Yeah....so do I...
But just because the 5th commandment wasn't referencing your parents didn't mean that children couldn't or shouldn't obey them.
Far from it.....
You, as a child, disobeyed and then you would get stoned by the entire town. Your parents throwing the first rock. This was not just a momentary lapse in judgement like most children have...that would get the "rod of correction" . LOL.
But an unrepentant and unruly child? Oh yeah....the entire town might just enjoy it too much...and just because you were older than 13 meant nothing (legal majority in Jewish culture). Your parents could bring charges at any age.
It is noteworthy that Jesus supported the death penalty for those who dishonored parents.
