What happened to Phil Robertson is disgraceful. All he did was quote the Bible and its message toward all sin, not just homosexuality. Somehow, in America today, quoting the Bible will get you fired. What kind of America is that? People today can now scream death to America and still get a paycheck from the army yet we can't say one bad word about Muslims or we'll get condemned. It's unfair and unjust. Liberals have created a society where anything that disrupts the traditional fabric of America - whether it be radical Islam(the Quran specifically condones violence, yet liberals act as if burning it is some crazy atrocity), homosexual activists(it's one thing to want marriage rights, but many want to shut down anyone who disagrees such as Chick Fil A), , socialists, or illegal immigrants - is embraced, while the bedrock principles of America, like Judeo-Christian values, limited government, and free enterprise are constantly denounced as "bigotry" or "for fat cats". They use the power of government to tell Chick Fil A where they can operate and they use their media influence to bully anyone who disagrees with their secular-socialist agenda.

Seriously, it's time for an overhaul.

Young man, you are a bright refreshing light for all of us older (for me, not by much) conservatives out here, and we all agree with you, but lets remember that the First Amendment applies to government egress only. Since A&E is not a government entity but a corporation with it's own constitutional rights, it had the same right to suspend Robertson as Robertson had to quote the Bible. To clear things up, he wasn't fired. He was suspended. He's still contracted with A&E. Honestly, neither one of these two are being hurt financially speaking.

It is indeed wrong for someone to be bullied by an activist group for stating a religious opinion. But ultimately the act of the suspension and the bullying have backfired. I know it is just a title, but this isn't "Obama's America" this is our America. Be it known, we are all bigots when it comes down to it, since we cannot tolerate each other, much less one man on a popular TV show.

We have more important things to deal with, my friend. Obamacare is still stripping people of their healthcare choices, Obama is still retreating on his promises, and the NSA is taking heat for its excesses. Don't be played for a fool.

I definitely agree with your message; however, what I think is needed is the equivalent of FOX News(which is wildly successful and the #1 TV news outlet) for other entertainment TV shows in which all views are represented. I think History Channel is pretty good, but it seems to me that a vast segment of the population is just fine with what Phil Robertson said, and a network should exist which would accept that for reality shows. Perhaps FOX's normal channel would be a good outlet for this. After all, when conservatives enter the media market, they win (see Rush Limbaugh with AM radio, FOX News, Internet blogs, etc.).

As far as I know, Fox News tries to emulate the aspect of representing all the views in politics, libertarians, Democrats, Republicans. The History Channel is a good idea, but I doubt they would take on such a controversial figure now that he is (emphasis on is) controversial.

I have a few mixed opinions of Rush Limbaugh that I won't get into here, same with right wing conservative blogs and such. Fox News is credible enough for me.

Oh? Remember the backlash against the Dixie Chicks?

What's happening to Phil Robertson is wrong. But don't put yourselves on a pedestal over free speech. You spent years of a Republican supermajority calling every liberal a traitor who was aiding the enemy. A&E is currently screwed right now because of their stupid decision. But it was their right to make that stupid decision. Capitalism.

I'll quote one of your hero's and say "They can say what they want to say ... they shouldn't have their feelings hurt just because some people don't want to [watch their show] when they speak out ... Freedom is a two-way street ..."

Freedom of speech under attack... what a bunch of whiny babies you are.

Here is what I said on another thread:

"Phil Robertson made his disparaging remarks on American soil to an American interviewer, while the Dixie Chicks made their disparaging remarks about the President on foreign soil.

Phil Robertson's beliefs are based on two thousand years teaching of Jesus, and prior to that a few more thousands of years of teaching in the Old Testament. The beliefs of the Dixie Chicks was based purely and simply on ignorance and hatred.

Sarah Palin, in a very dignified manner voiced her support for Phil Robertson, after herself been attacked by a useless Arab, in the most despicable way, an attack that the likes of which neither the Dixie Chicks, nor Martin Bashir would have tolerated with the same dignity.

Phil Robertson is the patriarch and the mainstay of the most popular show on cable TV, while neither Martin Bashir, nor the Dixie Chicks would be more than a fart in a hurricane on their own, without the blind support of the left-wing media.

What Martin Bashir insisted that should be done to Sarah Palin is not the belief of any religion, can not be defended by any reasonable and decent person, while Phil Robertson advocated NOTHING as vile as that to be done to gays, he only voiced his opinion based on his belief in the Bible, which can be defended by the fact that billions of people believe the way as he does."

What happened to Phil Robertson is disgraceful.

Taking the politics out of this, let me address the issue of what Phil said, keeping in mind that it was public and that he represents the network that employed him. If he had made disparaging remarks about Christians (let's say he called them wannabe fascists or something), I would expect Christians to protest his statements and to call on A&E to reprimand him in some way. I don't blame gays and lesbians if they were offended. Their reaction is to be expected. Pinning this on the President is wrong. He has nothing to do with this. Do you think a Romney Presidency would have made any difference in what happened?

Yes, young man, you had better refrain from spending much time thinking about Duck Dynasty. Doing that is the stuff of fools!

.

While I find myself having to defend this hairy duck guy at some level because I'm virulently anti-PC and psychotically pro Freedom of Speech, I wouldn't say this is a matter of Freedom of Speech per se. The government isn't involved in this, and an employer has the right to fire people when they do something stupid (pretty funny watching the lefties so "pro-business" on this one).

My point is that the PC Police have (so far) succeeded in creating an environment in which both businesses and individuals are intimidated from saying what's actually on their mind for fear of being economically and/or professionally punished. Fortunately, the PC Police have jumped the shark with their screams of "racist" at every opportunity and are now pretty much a joke. But the general environment remains. And the response of the PC Police is the same as their response when we point out the damaging aspects of Obamacare:

"Tough shit".

I've gone back and forth with the PC Police on this, and it pretty much boils down to the following differences:

I believe that we can't truly heal our differences and animosities unless and until everyone can be honest and put their cards on the table at all times. They don't.

I believe that in America, we should not be afraid of what someone has to say, regardless of how loopy we think it is. They don't.

I believe that passionate and principled debate and protests can occur without resorting to threats, intimidation and punishment. They don't.

I believe that when someone says something with which I disagree, it's an opportunity for respectful and thoughtful dialogue. They don't.

I believe it's a good idea to expose ourselves to, and respectfully consider, all points of view because, who knows, maybe we'll learn something. They don't.

I don't look for any and every opportunity to scream that I'm "offended" so that I can claim victimhood and try to have someone punished. They do.

So we're at an impasse. Not much I can do about that.

Yes sir Mac, it sure was a learning experience to hear some redneck millionaire express his opinion on TV of what the Bible says about homosexuality. Like none of the bull shit hadn't been said before.

Why, I bet you were surprised that some red necks felt that way about gays.

You should get out more.

And which part of this mans opinion should be discussed?

And Mac, you played the victim with me more times than I remember. So don't be offended that I don't agree with you. I've been respectful. Am I still on "ignore?"

Bottom line; this man said what he wanted to say. No one stopped him. He absolutely KNEW that what he was saying would cause controversy and didn't care. A&E had the right to do what they did with him.

WHAT IS THE BIG FUCKING DEAL? You right wingers are DESPERATE for conflict of any sort.
