The Canaanites were prosperous and successful.. We know a great deal more about them since the discovery of Ras Shamra and the Ugarit writings... and archaeology has really helped.

This is more about demonizing the neighbors than the Cananites being evil. Most serious scholars now think the Hebrews were Northcoast Canaanites and Abraham was from Urfa near Haran.

Archaeology would help more if states like Syria wouldn't prevent research once discovering of their significance to pre-Canaanite Hebrew civilization. Look the city of Ebla. Ras Shamra confirms most of what was already known from the Hebrew texts.

This was unlikely about demonization, since the Hebrew texts are focused mainly on harsh self-criticism than towards any other people. More so that the findings you've mentioned essentially confirm what was mostly known from those writings.

Ras Shamra predates the Hebrews.. There are 4-5 languages in the Ugarit writings.

All the evidence points to the Canaanites being successful.. Even you still demonize not just the Canaanites but current neighbors as well.

Daniel Arnaud’s brand-new collection of Babylonian library tablets from Ugarit (Arnaud 2007). It takes a second look at the Ugarit fragments, and considers especially their relationship to the other Gilgameš material.] The history of the Babylonian Gilgameš epic falls into two halves that roughly correspond to the second and first millennia BC respectively.1

The Canaanite migrants brought with them cultic practices and images of their traditional gods. A major Canaanite god was El, and the phrase ‘El has conquered’ gives us the word Isra’el. The Canaanite god El had a ghostly presence in a host of Jewish heroes: Dan-i-El; Ezek-i-El; Sam-u-El, Ish-ma-El, El-i-jah, El-o-him, etc.

There was a total of 6 tribes that were practicing (1) through (12) up there:

Hittites
Amorites
Canaanites
Perizzites
Hivites
Jebusites
All 6 tribes are generally referred to as the "Canaanites."
Deuteronomy 20:16-18

The command of God to the Israelites in Deuteronomy 20:16 "do not leave alive
anything that breathes" was applicable only to these 6 tribes that were practicing
(1) through (12) listed up-post. All the other many tribes and cities that were living
at a distance from the Canaanites were to be offered an opportunity to make peace
with the Israelites and were never the object of total annihilation as was the 6 totally
corrupt Canaanite nations.

See Deuteronomy 20:11 and Deuteronomy 20:15 on the offer of peace to be
made to the nations living at a distance from the Canaanites. The reason for
the offer of peace was that these nations living at a distance from the
Canaanites were morally salvageable and they were accordingly shown
mercy if they would agree to make peace with the Israelites.

to follow all the detestable things they do in worshiping their gods, and

Yeah, they "resettle" a lot I hear. Can't help noticing that your sources must be so impressive you need list none. So do you think a highly matriarchal society is automatically a bad thing or what?

All social structures are matriarchal. Antisocial structures are patriarchal.

The Canaanites were prosperous and successful.. We know a great deal more about them since the discovery of Ras Shamra and the Ugarit writings... and archaeology has really helped.

This is more about demonizing the neighbors than the Cananites being evil. Most serious scholars now think the Hebrews were Northcoast Canaanites and Abraham was from Urfa near Haran.

Such theories always change, the Bible doesn't.

No wonder the Hebrew god told his people to murder every man, woman and child and all the beasts of the field along with them. I guess genocide was ok for god to do in that case.
