I'd say we're getting into the second half of Stage 2...

It’s been more than 150 years since Frederic Bastiat wrote his treatise, The Law, a small work, challenging the ravages of failing socialism thrust upon France as a result of the French revolution.

In that unique pamphlet, Bastiat points out that when the law of any country supports the moral belief systems of a people, defends the rights of said people and their property, the law is perceived as being moral; a defense against evil and those who flaunt it as being immoral. Payment of taxes and civic obligations are perceived as a virtue and those who flout this as criminals.

However, when the law becomes a source of plunder or pits itself in opposition to the morals of the people, the people perceive the law to be immoral and widely despise it. Indeed, in those times, flouting the law is extolled as virtue.

Another book by contemporary author Hernando Desoto, The Mystery of Capital: Why Capitalism Triumphs in the West and Fails Everywhere Else, points out much the same thing, that the security of ownership of private property guaranteed by law for the lower and middle classes has been the essential ingredient resulting in the prosperity enjoyed by many western countries. Without this security, where the state becomes an impediment to commerce or property ownership, the people are forced to operate their economies outside of law, which is once again perceived as evil, rather than a force for good.

In essence, when a government goes from being a protector of private property to a plunderer of it, it places itself on a course of chaos, economic ruin and its own ultimate self-destruction.

The Three Steps of Socialism

Socialism is the mechanism which transforms government from its noble role as a protector into a predator and, since the citizens of our fine country seem determined to plow through socialism to its bitter end, we should examine the territory through which these three sad steps lead. The core result of socialism is the destruction of private property and wealth.

The events described in this piece are a composite of the ravages of socialism experienced in other countries. While each country does experience all the events portrayed, all socialist countries follow the same miserable path. The U.S. doesn’t have to go down this path, but it seems determines to do so.

We’re Off to See the Wizard

One of the great dangers of any government by the people is that sooner or later their politicians discover they can vote largess from the public trust. Their first experiment at this bold new adventure invariably revolves around social programs enacted in the name of morality and the public good or even solving some current crisis. Who could oppose that? “After all,” it will be argued, “don’t you care about people, or the welfare of the country, or the environment?”

The lure of this argument has been absolutely irresistible from the Roman Empire to the French and Bolshevik revolutions to Socialist Parties (D) and (R) in the USA today.

We've been headed down this road for a long time. It didn't start with this current President. George Bush opened the door and the Democrats have now kicked it down. It really is sad.

It started when we established a military with health insurance, police officers, BLM land, firefighters, etc etc.
Our founding fathers set the foundation when they established many of the Land Ordinances, setting up schools, and land plots for veterans of the Revolution. We have always had socialistic programs in our country, get over it.

Actually I think TR to a degree, opened that door. FDR knocked it off its hinges, LBJ blew the wall down.

Now it's going full force.

Are you really arguing that our Founders were socialists 100 years before socialism began to be taught?

Socialism might not have been named yet or taught, but it's ideas have been around for a long time.
In China I cannot remember how far back exactly, but it was before the last dynasty, had shared land during certain periods. Someone might have named concept, but it is nothing new.

The Equal-field system was introduced into practice around 485 AD by Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty, a non-Han kingdom in North China, during the Northern and Southern Dynasties period. The system was eventually adopted by other kingdoms and its use continued through the Sui and Tang dynasties

The system was intended to foster the development of land and ensure no agricultural land lie neglected, to prevent the aristocratic and powerful families from developing large power bases by monopolizing the fields, and to allow the common people to get a share of land to ensure their livelihood. From these, the government could develop a tax base and slow down the process of land accumulating into vast, untaxable estates of the powerful elites

Like I said, the ideas are not new. :D

The ordinance was also significant for establishing a mechanism for funding public education. Section 16 in each township was reserved for the maintenance of public schools. Many schools today are still located in section sixteen of their respective townships, although a great many of the school sections were sold to raise money for public education.

In theory, the federal government also reserved sections 8, 11, 26 and 29 to compensate veterans of the Revolutionary War, but examination of property abstracts in Ohio indicates that this was not uniformly practiced. The ordinance also said “That three townships adjacent to Lake Erie be reserved, to be hereafter disposed of by Congress, for the use of the officers, men, and others, refugees from Canada, and the refugees from Nova Scotia, who are or may be entitled to grants of land under resolutions of Congress now existing.“ This was not possible, as the area next to Lake Erie was property of Connecticut, so the Canadians had to wait until the establishment of the Refugee Tract in 1798.[1]

This is why America needs to better update our educational system, so that idiots can properly understand what, among others things, what socialism is, as if socialism type programs policies were nonexistent in this country before Obama. When people aren't properly educated, idiots like Limbaugh, Beck, Malkin and the scum at Foxnews can swoop down and take advantage of the minds of uneducated people and produce a nation of misfits. When I say education I don't mean college degrees I meant it by knowing what the hell is going on from your own mind and understanding and seeking out knowledge.

Wow, I actually agree with you.

No idiot, she's arguing that socialistic type programs always existed and that our country was never at any time 100 pure capitalist. Far right zombies were amazingly ignorant about what socialism was before Obama became president and Limbaugh and Beck taught them, now they scream socialist at anything other far right loonies declare as socialist.

Um, this system was put in place long before Mao.:cuckoo:
And show me, where I said we needed to adopt the program? I simply was pointing out socialism has existed for a long time. You really need to learn how to read.

China is communist and a socialist is not necessarily a communist don't confuse the two as being one in the same.

Do you call it socialism when the middle class picks up the brunt of the tax burden over the rich who actually pay less taxes because of tax breaks and because they have the money to pay a lawyer thousands of dollars to read a 60,000 page tax code who find the loopholes to avoid paying more taxes? This is what the far right, less taxes advocates don't tell, its their dirty little secret.

Its more like lying and crying wolf. The rich almost never lose money when they pay taxes, it the middle class thats been carrying this country's tax burden, but now the middleclass is shrinking because the government keeps raising taxes because if the rich actually paid what they're supposed to be paying minus the loopholes the middleclass wouldn't have to bear so much.
