Nobody but idiots favored putting federal troops in the streets over objections of the Governors of the various states. Nobody, but nobody was impressed with tear gassing the peaceful protester outside the White House, so trump could walk across the street to hold a bible upside down at a church, where he wasn't invited, (gassing some of their clergy) for a photo opportunity.

Maybe some voters feel that the Dems are better (and more clever) at controlling a certain group.

Americans are understandably worn out by the chaos caused by that group, so they may be willing to hold their noses and vote in Mr. Biden and (more important) his lady VP, who are seen as able to buy off that group with all kinds of promises and goodies.

If there is any notable bombshells, early September. If it is another Ho-Hum, Yawn, mid-October, like you said, to try to make use of what little that might be remotely effective. But, there is probably nothing remotely effective.
