The Right To Destroy Jewish History

[ Hamas and others have destroyed Jewish, Roman and other archeological sites in Gaza, Israel, Judea and Samaria. They need to explain why their Palestine Museum in Ramallah is so empty of history before 1920 ]

In a controversial op-ed featured on TRT World, a Turkish news site, authors Burak Elmali and Elif Cook level serious accusations against Israel, alleging that the nation has "weaponized archaeology" to "deny the existence of Palestine and Palestinians," essentially charging Israel with "twisting historical findings" to bolster the Zionist narrative of "a land without a people for a people without a land." This exaggerated claim puts a spotlight on the contentious intersection of archaeology and politics in one of the world's most disputed territories.

lmali serves as a researcher at the TRT World Research Centre in Istanbul. His expertise is in Turkish foreign policy and major power politics.

Cook, on the other hand, works as a Social Awareness and Corporate Partnership Project specialist at TRT World Citizen and is also pursuing her PhD at Istanbul University in Museum Management.

The TRT World article posits that Israel's leaders have engaged in a systematic effort to erase and rewrite history, employing archaeology as a "key tactic serving Israel's occupation agenda." This narrative suggests a deliberate manipulation of the past, where archaeological discoveries are selectively interpreted or highlighted to reinforce the Zionist claim to the land.

However, this portrayal simplifies the complex and multifaceted nature of archaeological research in the region. Israel's archaeological sites and projects, far from being monolithic instruments of state propaganda, are part of a global scientific community dedicated to uncovering the ancient world. These endeavors have unearthed evidence of the myriad cultures and peoples that have called this land home, from ancient Israelites and Canaanites to Byzantine Christians and Muslims.

Critique fails to account for Israeli archeology's inclusivity, diversity

The critique offered by Elmali and Cook that "the Jewish leaders systematically erase history" to perpetuate foundational myths fails to account for the inclusivity and diversity of archaeological work in Israel. Sites like the City of David, while certainly significant to Jewish history, also reveal layers history that span beyond a single narrative, offering insights into the region's complex past.

Archaeological findings in Israel have revealed layers of history that reflect the region's diverse cultural and ethnic heritage. For example, the discovery of the 9th century BCE Tel Dan Stele offers historical proof of King David's dynasty, corroborating biblical narratives while also aligning with broader historical records of the region's ancient past. This and other discoveries, such as the Pool of Siloam and the Pilate Stone, provide tangible links to periods and figures mentioned in both Jewish and Christian texts, without negating the historical presence of other peoples.

In addition, Israeli archaeological sites are often excavated and studied in partnership with international institutions, ensuring that research methodologies and findings undergo rigorous scrutiny. This collaborative approach ensures that archaeological work is not isolated or biased toward a single narrative but contributes to a global understanding of ancient history. Museums and archaeological parks across Israel, including the Israel Museum in Jerusalem and the archaeological sites in Megiddo and Masada, showcase artifacts from a multitude of periods and cultures, including Canaanite, Israelite, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Islamic, and Ottoman. This inclusivity underlines a commitment to preserving and presenting the rich tapestry of the land's history, contrary to claims of erasure or exclusion.

Furthermore, archaeological research in Israel is subject to academic and legal oversight, including the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), which mandates the preservation of sites of historical significance across diverse cultural and historical periods. The IAA's work emphasizes the protection and study of archaeological heritage for all humanity, challenging the notion that the discipline is exploited for ideological purposes.

The claims of Elmali and Cook, overlook the broader scope and integrity of archaeological practice in Israel. While it is undeniable that historical narratives play a significant role in the identity and politics of any nation, reducing archaeological research to a mere tool of political ideology does not do justice to the discipline's commitment to uncovering the past. Archaeology in Israel, as elsewhere, remains a key to understanding our shared human heritage, transcending contemporary political divides.

[ Gotta destroy the Jews. Take away their history, their heritage, archeology, anything and everything. Jews have no right to exist ]

Dear Mr. Goebbles,

You may have returned as Abi, it still does not give you the right to reject what you have already said yourself.
The Jews are the Hebrews.

As the descendants of the Hebrews they have all the rights to the Land of Israel. All of it, even if 80% of it has ended up in the hands of the invading Arabs.

How odd that only Muslims reject the Jews as being the descendants of the Hebrews and Israelites.

Christians do not do it. So much so that any and all excavations by Christian groups have Preserved the Jewish identity of those places they found. Just as they preserved the Christians and Muslim and Turkish identity of each excavation.

But not Muslims.
But not Arabs.
Not since 1948.
And especially NOT since 1967.

Tell us Mr. Goebbles, how is the end of the destruction of Jewish identity and heritage going to be achieved?

When are you going to stop serving the Muslim masters who are to conquer the world and destroy everything non Muslim and start helping all the cultures of the world to survive.....why?

Because each and every culture in this world has the right to exist.

But again, with the Palestinians telling the world that they are the descendants of the ancient Canaanites......

WHY ARE THEY DESTROYING THEIR OWN HERITAGE AND HISTORY ??????
The Holy Land Was Hollow Until the Jews Returned

Yes, the Squad is upset at you guys right now.

Rewriting Ancient History

  • Fatah official: ā€œGoliath is none other than a Palestinian king and hero who foughtā€¦and defeated the Hebrews and sent them to the ā€˜trash can of history.'ā€
  • Quran: ā€œThey [Children of Israel] defeated them [Goliathā€™s army - ed.] by permission of Allah, and David killed Goliath.ā€
Rewriting Recent History

  • Fatah official: ā€œā€¦in Hebron. They always claim that we slaughtered them. We didnā€™t slaughter them, not at all.ā€
  • Historical fact: 65 Jews were brutally murdered in one day in 1929 by Arabs in Hebron.

The Palestinians are so obsessed with denying Israel's right to exist that they are even willing to contradict the Quran to force history to conform to their worldview.

A Fatah official and former president of Al-Quds Open University, contradicting the Quran which writes ā€œDavid killed Goliath,ā€ claimed that Goliath was a Palestinian and that he ā€œdefeated the Hebrews,ā€ who went ā€œin the trash can of history.ā€

Younes Amr, Fatah Revolutionary Council member and former president of Al-Quds Open University:

ā€œThrough the unity of our Canaanite Arab ancestors against all the invaders who came to our land ā€“ there were among them those who triumphed and ruled here, and there were those who were defeated, left, and moved to the trash can of history, and foremost among them the Hebrews. Goliath is none other than a Palestinian king and hero who fought the Hebrews, and our Palestinian ancestors prevented the Hebrews from reaching the coastsā€¦ā€
[Official PA TV, Jan. 31, 2024]
As stated, Amr blatantly contradicts the Quran, which states:

ā€œ[King] Saul went forth with the soldiersā€¦ to [face] Goliath and his soldiers, they said, ā€˜Our Lordā€¦ give us victory over the disbelieving people.ā€™ So they defeated them by permission of Allah, and David killed Goliath.ā€
[Saheeh International translation, Quran, 2:249-251]
With this historical revision, Amr is trying to disconnect the indigenous Jewish people of the Bible from their descendants who are todayā€™s modern Israelis. The Palestinian Authority teaches its people that the Hebrews of the Bible were all destroyed, and todayā€™s Jews and Israelis are descendants of a Khazar tribe that converted to Judaism. They argue that Jews today therefore are only a religion with no connection to the Biblical nation of Israel and no national rights to the land of Israel. This is why Amr is teaching that the biblical Hebrews ended up in the "trash can of history."

However, Amr does not suffice with a revision of ancient history. He also seeks to revise more recent history. He continued:

ā€œThe best period in their [Jewish] history, they lived under Muslim Arab rule in Spain, Egypt, Baghdad, Syria, and Palestine, even here, even in Hebron. They always claim that we slaughtered them [in Hebron]. We didnā€™t slaughter them, not at all.ā€
[Official PA TV, Jan. 31, 2024]
While there were periods of time in which Jews were given freedom in Muslim countries, this romanticized vision of Jewish history is false, just like the claim that Jews were not massacred in Hebron is a lie. In fact, Arabs brutally murdered 65 Jews in just one day in the 1929 Hebron Massacre.

Conclusion:

Palestinians are so desperate to deny Israelā€™s right to exist and to remove Jewish presence from the Land of Israel that they will even contradict their own holiest source, the Quran. A prominent Fatah official claimed that Goliath was a Palestinian king who defeated the Hebrews, when the Quran itself states that the Hebrews defeated Goliathā€™s people and that David killed Goliath. Is this former head of a Palestinian university just ignorant or is he intentionally denying a verse in the Quran for political purposes?
