"The question the new rule prompts, however, is how the heck is Trump going to actually debate under the new rules? This is surreal. Trump is asking his personal attorney, Bill Barr, who doubles as the U.S. Attorney General, to investigate his political rival, Joe Biden, two weeks before the election.

Trump must really be desperate. No one thought even he would have the balls to make such a blatant demand of the Department of Justice.

The A.P. reports, "Trump on Tuesday called on Attorney General William Barr to immediately launch an investigation into unverified claims about Democrat Joe Biden and his son Hunter, effectively demanding that the Justice Department muddy his political opponent and abandon its historic resistance to getting involved in elections.

"With just two weeks to go before Election Day, Trump for the first time explicitly called on Barr to investigate the Bidens and even pointed to the nearing Nov. 3 election as reason that Barr should not delay taking action. Trump has been leveling accusations of corruption against Biden without verified evidence for months, but is stepping up the pressure in the final days of the campaign."

“We’ve got to get the attorney general to act,” Trump said in an interview on “Fox & Friends.” “He’s got to act, and he’s got to act fast. He’s got to appoint somebody. This is major corruption, and this has to be known about before the election.”

Not once has Trump explained what Joe Biden did wrong or the reasons for the investigation. This is simply another phantom conspiracy, one among many. Several times Trump has accused his political rivals of wrongdoing, but he never explains what he is talking about.

Thus a phantom conspiracy. Trump can't go into detail because there isn't any detail.

It will be interesting to see Barr's reaction. How does he squirm out of this one?

At the White House today Trump ended a fiery interview taping with CBS News’ “60 Minutes,” then launched an attack against the interviewer on Twitter for not wearing a mask, and threatened to post the interview before it aired.

The drama unfolded after Trump was frustrated with the line of questioning and how the interview was being conducted, said one person familiar with the episode, while another in the room described the president as “pissed.”

Trump spent more than 40 minutes with CBS News correspondent Lesley Stahl, and did not proceed to shoot a second portion of the interview that included Vice President Mike Pence.

At the White House today Trump ended a fiery interview taping with CBS News’ “60 Minutes,” then launched an attack against the interviewer on Twitter for not wearing a mask, and threatened to post the interview before it aired.

The incident was first reported by CNN. CBS News did not immediately respond to a CNN request for comment. When reached for comment, the White House did not dispute CNN's reporting.

A group of former George W. Bush administration and campaign officials have launched a new super PAC that mobilizes disaffected Republican voters for presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden.

The group, launched under the name "43 Alumni for Biden," "seeks to unite and mobilize a community of historically Republican voters who are dismayed and disappointed by the damage done to our nation by Donald Trump's presidency."

Senator Ben Sasse, Republican of Nebraska, castigated Trump in a telephone town hall with constituents, accusing the President of bungling the response to the coronavirus pandemic, cozying up to dictators and white supremacists, and offending voters so broadly that he might cause a “Republican blood bath” in the Senate.

“The depths of his dishonesty is just astounding to me. The dishonesty, the transactional nature of every relationship, though it's more pathetic than anything else. He is the most flawed person I have ever met in my life," Trump's former White House chief of staff, retired Marine Gen. John Kelly.

Sen. Mitt Romney said Wednesday he did not vote for President Donald Trump's reelection, the latest break between the GOP's 2012 presidential nominee and the leader of his party.

The first-term Republican senator, who already voted in Utah, declined to say if he voted for Democratic nominee Joe Biden or wrote in another candidate. But he made clear that Trump did not get his vote.

Reclaim Our Party is a super PAC targeting Republicans and right-leaning independents, telling them it was OK to vote against Trump.

The two biggest groups that dominate the anti-Trump Republican landscape are the Lincoln Project and Republican Voters Against Trump. Both have become multi-million-dollar operations that conduct their own sophisticated data research and polling.

All that is left for Trump are non-college educated farmers, rural shopkeepers, and anarchists.

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump taped a town hall with Sinclair Broadcasting Group's Eric Bolling. In it, Bolling asked the President a simple question -- and the answer Trump gave is hugely revealing.

Here's the exchange:

Bolling: "With Covid, is there anything that you think you could have done differently, if you had a mulligan or a do-over on one aspect of the way you handled it, what would it be?"

Trump: "Not much."

The President of the United States, faced with a still-raging virus that has sickened 8.2 million Americans and killed 227,500, says that there is "not much" that he would have done differently if he could do things all over.

Really? REALLY?!!?

How about not making mask-wearing a political issue? Or letting the scientists lead our response to the pandemic? Or not playing down the threat of the virus when he knew how communicable it was as far back as February? Or fixing the testing process in America in the early days of the virus? Or showing any sort of empathy for the Americans who have lost their lives? ("It is what it is," Trump said in September when confronted with the death toll from Covid-19.)

It's not clear whether Trump's "not much" answer is driven by pure tone-deafness or his obsession with always being right and never admitting a mistake.

In a speech to North Carolina voters, Trump said he is feeling great after his recovery from coronavirus and offered his perspective on the virus. "It's ending anyway, they go crazy when I say it, it's going to peter out."

What an incredibly stupid comment to make. It is as if Trump is living in an alternate universe. With only a few days left before Election Day, GOP leaders are dismayed Trump illustrates total dysfunction when it comes to covid.

Yesterday, there were nearly 63,700 new cases of the virus and 1,225 Americans died. The virus is surging in nearly every state. We are averaging over 55,000 new cases a day, and between 800 to 1300 deaths daily. The U.S. leads the world in number of cases and virus deaths.

China is one of only three foreign nations — the others are Britain and Ireland — where Mr. Trump maintains a bank account, according to an analysis of the president’s tax records, which were obtained by The New York Times. The foreign accounts do not show up on Mr. Trump’s public financial disclosures, where he must list personal assets, because they are held under corporate names. The identities of the financial institutions are not clear.

The Chinese account is controlled by Trump International Hotels Management L.L.C., which the tax records show paid $188,561 in taxes in China while pursuing licensing deals there from 2013 to 2015.

The tax records do not include details on how much money may have passed through the overseas accounts, though the Internal Revenue Service does require filers to report the portion of their income derived from other countries. Trump International Hotels Management reported just a few thousand dollars from China.

Mr. Garten [Trump's lawyer] would not identify the bank in China where the account is held. Until last year, China’s biggest state-controlled bank rented three floors in Trump Tower, a lucrative lease that drew accusations of a conflict of interest for the president.

Trump and his allies have tried to paint the Democratic nominee, Joseph R. Biden Jr., as soft on China, in part by pointing to his son’s business dealings there.

The only question now is, will Trump act like an a-hole again, or does he know how much he lost in the first debate when he acted like a complete a-hole?

I have to give credit where credit is due. Trump, for the most part, did not act like an a-hole. He apparently learned his lesson, and he allowed Biden to speak -- most of the time. Both interrupted the other occasionally, but the offenses were pretty much even.
