The Psychology of Qanon

Trying to find silver linings in the last four years, continued:

This period has certainly been a treasure trove of material for psychological analysis. In this instance, why has the Qanon conspiracy cult caught on with so many Americans? And how many of them will remain now that they were made fools of, on Inauguration Day?

In a recent study conducted by myself, Karen Douglas and Clara De Inocencio, we further investigated why this could be the case. Our conclusion? Conspiracy theories reinforce a belief that nothing in the world happens through coincidence. This refusal to recognize the role of chance leads people to develop a worldview in which hostile and secret conspiracies permeate all layers of society.

Feelings of anxiety and uncertainty also help fuel conspiracy theories. Such emotions function as a psychological warning signal, leading people to try and make sense of societal events that frighten them. This helps to explain the widespread (and ongoing) speculation that followed impactful events such as 9/11 or the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Together with Nils Jostmann and Michele Acker, we found that feelings of uncertainty, coupled with the feeling that your life is not fully in your control anymore, increases conspiracy thinking. Studies by others researchers confirm that emotions reflecting uncertainty — such as fear or worry — can increase conspiracy beliefs.

How many believers are among us here? We'll be able to guess by counting how many of them scoff at, mock, and dismiss this article.

What if we just scoff, and dismiss you? The stupidity of labeling someone because they think you’re article is trash, is the dumbest, most divisive thing I can think of....Now give me my thanks, and gfy.....

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!!!!

Feeling a little used and abused are you???
I just toss the softballs in the air, and they jump in and whack 'em over the fence for me. I don't think they even realize it.

Happens all the time.

You couldn't tell from the first sentence that the writer is a Quack? Oh geebus----------

Youtube removed the Dan Bongino video explaining some of the "conspiracy theories". WTF?
Dan worked for the Secret Service, so he is no kook.

Here is the video that youtube won't allow. Dan's speech is basically what Special Prosecutor Durham is investigating. So why is this considered a Qanon "conspiracy theory" instead of a serious DOJ investigation?

So the OP whines about "conspiracy theories" without listing any of them, so we have no idea WTF democrats are already labeling "a conspiracy"?

Maybe the democrats are calling the many "voter fraud" claims "conspiracy theories"? Read the following article about the PA legislature's concerns, that the governor and secretary of state ignored and certified the vote anyway?! How many more legitimate voter fraud issues are there? None, they're all just "conspiracy theories"........the courts already dismissed all of them......

If you believe in voter fraud you need therapy.
If you voted for Trump you are an insurrectionist and need to be punished.
If you are a Republican you need to be de-programmed.
He is a kook, in every way.... or playing one on TV. :)

He's not normal, in any way, shape, or form....and gets paid for it!
Your proof is what?

You're going to be challenged for not opposing pedophiles...that's their "tell".

I am starting to get the impression that this Q thing is being used by Biden people to discredit anyone who doesn't fall in line.

I'm getting the impression that the Republian misinformation and propaganda machine is just getting warmed up, and that conservatives are really getting themselves into trouble because of the basic dishonesty of right wing media.

Biden is NOT in the pay of China, Russia, or any foreign power, and yet that's all right wing posters can talk about. I'm saying this as a fact based statement based on multiple factors, one of which is his character across more than 40 years of public service.

The United States of America needs the Republican Party in order for the government to function properly. A sane, credible, fact based opposition with their own platform, ideas, and honest criticism of the current government and it's policies. A government which offers an alternative to what's being proposed.

Instead you have these crazy people lying about Democrats, demonizing them, vilifying them, and accusing of them of imaginary crimes and being sex deviants. The Republican Party has no platform. No plans. No ideas of how to deal with the pandemic or anything else.

Biden was sworn in two days ago, and you fools pivot immediately to name, calling, lies and just stupidity. You have real problems to deal with and you're off in crazy town.

Grow the fuck up and start listening to facts, not batshit crazy town bullshit like this.

The attempts to smear Joe Biden started with Tara Reade, and have continued on to the Ukraine, China, pedophilia, bribery, etc. When the only criticisms you have of a person are based on lies and smear campaigns, it doesn't say much for your policies and stands on the issues. In fact, it's an admission that you have nothing in that department.

This complaint was not ignored, it was politely explained that the analysis that these legislators produced was based on incomplete data and therefore completely useless.

Yes, these are just conspiracy theories. One of the hallmarks of conspiracy theories is that any attempt to refute them is ignored or explained away by expanding the conspiracy.

It's very easy for people to make these allegations and for them to become viral. What is far less likely to become viral is the facts that disprove these allegations.

It's such a clever trap that one. How can you not be opposed to pedophiles? What kind of evil person are you?

Sadly, police child trafficking units are being so overwhelmed with "tips" from these loons and chasing down Q rabbit holes, that real child sex traffickers are getting away. The police have limited time and resources, and every day real pedophiles are getting away because of Q supporters are creating an epidemic of false accusations and reports.

Totally agree with you that once an allegation is made, there is no "nothing to see here" that will stop the allegation.
The only thing that would have stopped the "conspiracy theories" cold is Barr starting an FBI/DOJ investigation to list them all, and give details disproving them all.
All the sweeping under the rug is not going to satisfy anyone who voted for Trump.
Right now Xiden is illegitimate until proven otherwise.

The "scandal" is front page news with a banner headline. The retraction is on Page 12, in a housekeeping column, under a paragraph headed "Corrections".

If believe Epstein operated a pedo island--with all the dems known to have gone---you have to realize that the dems are pedos and that the other dems and swamp republicans either covered for them or kept the "SECRET". This is what logic dictates.

This doesn't even cover all the sexual pervasions that keep popping up---Weinstein dem donor, Anthony Weiner and his Weiner, daddy bush snagged sexually harassing health aid and quickly quieted, Bill Clinton and his trips, Hunter and his filmed rapes, biden and his many sexual harassments and comments such as kids like his leg hairs-----

Again, I used to read the psycho -babble of the adults in charge in the 70's despite being just a kid---mainly I was trying to figure out why the serial killers like charlie Manson and Jim Jones and how and why they were allowed to be--they used sex as form of control and testing to see if someone was one of theirs-------think the politicans are operating on the same system. They look for and encourage and create sexual pervasions in their lieutenants to both control and test them..............sexual deviants have no boundaries but are still "group" think people who will push an agenda by any means necessary with no regards to the damage it does to their victims and others over their lifetime of if it costs them life. Think then given the corruption in Washington-----that they would also be sexual perverts because corrupt personalities also have corrupt sex. ...cheating on spouses, harassing others, going after kids, the plane rides to the sex island, the chinese credit cards at the strip clubs etc.....A way to test and control the corrupted group.

Barr did exactly that. He sent out a letter of instruction to all prosecutors to investigate every allegation of election irregularities, not matter how small, and they all wrote back and said they have nor reports or complaints to follow up on.

There was no "sweeping" of anything under the rug. There were allegations made that had no basis in fact.

The counts were completed on camera in real time, and certified by election officials. Conspiracy theorists used those videos to with voice overs claiming all sorts of nefarious things were happening in the videos. Those went into courts and the election officials explained what was actually going on in the videos, putting the lies to the "pulling ballots out from under tables" bullshit in the voice overs.

The ONLY thing fuelling this "stop the steal" bullshit is Donald Trump claiming he really won the election, and that it was stolen, and the Republican Party who refused to say otherwise. But notice that the Republican leaders didn't say he won. They just refused to say he lost. McConnell said Trump was within his rights to go to the courts, but he never said that Trump won, or that Biden hadn't won.

Got a link to the Barr report listing all of the voter fraud claims and their findings?

This board isn't going to convince them otherwise. They need friends in their lives to pull them out. However in real life they probably keep this a secret and many don't have friends.

Epstein ran a pedo island, but your assumptions that the "girls" were always in residence, is false. Epstein moved in rich and powerful circles, and not all rich people are pedophiles. It gave him "leverage" if they were, but a lot of people went to the island for legitimate purposes and were completely unaware of Esptein's other sidelines.

It wasn't where "all of the Dems were known to have gone". That's completely false. There were a lot of very rich and powerful men who were involved with Epstein and his "girls", including Donald Trump, who was best friends with Epstein for a long, long time in the 1990's and early 2000's.

None of Epstein's girls have implicated any top Democrats, most noteably, the Clintons. Since they haven't shied away from implicating other rich and powerful men, including Prince Andrew, I couldn't help but notice that Trump, who was sued for beating and raping a 13 year old at Epstein's New York apartment, wished Epstein's girlfriend "well", but called Kamala Harris a "monster".

They included former New Mexico governor Bill Richardson, billionaire Glenn Dubin, modeling agent Jean-Luc Brunel, former U.S. senator George Mitchell and the late MIT scientist Marvin Minsky.

All those named have denied the allegations. I don't believe them either.

It's interesting that this thread is turning into another debate on conspiracies about election fraud. I don't believe those are specific to Q-Anon (though I'm open to hear more) however it's often times the same individuals whose world views are easily shaped by the dark corners of the internet.

I wonder why the media and the left are so desperate to put away any stories of them being a bunch of pedos.

And is so obviously photoshopped!!! The art doesn't match the room. The entire room is matched to the Nth degree - the ceiling, the walls, the wood, the drapes, the fireplace - all complemenatary and matchy, matchy, and then you have two paintings that neither match, nor fit into the room.

You fools are so easy to lie to.

Is that why he Tweeted an excuse for it? There is also video of it, it was on live FoxNews TV, idiot.
