Walmart is a place of high human traffic and sometimes it can be very, very interesting. You never know who you're going to meet or what they might do. Today I was picking up a few odds and ends courtesy of Mao incorporated and l was traveling across the back of the store where the passage is usually a lot easier. Only about ten percent of the people were wearing masks. As I was moving along I came to a narrow passage with an older woman coming the other way so I moved over and scrunched against the display case to allow her to pass. She was wearing a mask. Then I heard a muffled statement from under the mask. Move back and go down the other aisle please...she said. This was not in request form btw. So I asked why? She said....you're not wearing a mask. I said....it's OK....I will turn around and face away from you while you go by. So I did. Suddenly I felt a sharp poking pain in my shoulder blade....it was a cane end. LOL..... I turned suddenly and smacked it away and said politely.....please do not do that again. So I turned again.... ( should have known better ) and sure enough I got twice the jab I did before. At this point I simply removed the cane from her hand and placed it high on a shelf and told her she could have it back when she passed by or else I would pass myself and she would have to figure out how to get it back on her own. ( Once again I should have known better) Suddenly she began to scream for help. So I was quickly surrounded by store help some concerned customers and and a few burly security people who thought I was trying to hurt this woman.....but thank God I was rescued by a store clerk who saw everything and explained it to both the security people and the store manager. Now I admit I would have been much better off in the first place simply to go down another aisle ( I usually see these things coming ) but sometimes its just the principle of the matter. The Store manager gave her the cane back and she immediately tried to poke me again....LOL. She was restrained and escorted out of the store. However it is not lost on me that I could easily have been arrested for assault on an Elderly woman and would probably have had five years worth of legal hell for it. Long story short.....I was stupid even to risk it. It's not about being right or wrong it's about pragmatism and what the real world does and how it acts.

The next time you see an apparently helpless little old lady with a mask coming your way....weigh you options carefully.

Nah. You handled well, even going as far as offering to turn away while she passed, offering to turn the other cheek, but poked a second time. 2nd poke and I would have not only taken the cane from her hands, but probably broken it in half and pitched the pieces away, most likely getting arrested, depending on witness having eyes, willing to speak and available security camera footage.
Sounds almost like you have to shop with a GoPro mounted as body camera. It is a strange world out there in places. Have not seen any of that here, not meaning it doesn't happen here, but doubt most people in the right place and time to see it.

Sounds like she was a left over lefty from the radical 1960's hippie era.

She said please. When people say please you have to do it.
In my opinion, it might depend on how the favor is asked for. Saying please could be irrelevant. When a person decides to get physical, they are only throwing the chance of getting whatever it is that they want right into the toilet.

God bless you always!!!

I blame myself to some extent here for not seeing all the possibilities of dealing with someone who might have had diminished reasoning capabilities. Also I think the issue was a sore one for me already and I allowed that to taint my thinking process to a certain degree.
