The old testament.

Allegories of the spiritual struggle?
No. It's difficult to process because it is so out of step with the NT. The only standpoint from which we should read the whole of the Bible is the standpoint of Christ crucified. If we read the Bible such that we see God as capricious and cruel or that it encourages us to be violent then we have misread the Bible.

The God of the old testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction:jealous and proud if it; a petty unjust unforgiving control freak, a conductive bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser, a misogynist, a homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, meglomanical, masochistic, capricious bully.

Robert Sherman once asked George Bush snr. Whether he recognised the citizenship and patriotism of atheists.
He said "no, I don't know they should be considered citizens nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under god"

This is what George washington and John Adams said and signed in 1797.
"AS the government of the United States is not founded on the Christian religion, it is declared by the parties that no religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption to the harmony"

That's not what a lot of people believe.
Are you seriously arguing that you believe God doesn't exist because you think God is a meanie?

The government of the United States is not founded on the Christian religion

That line generated a national controversy and prompted ratification of the Treaty of Peace and Amity. The Americans determined that to say America's government was not founded on the Christian religion was wrong.

The country itself, certainly, was Christian. Apparently, the government was, too, according to the superseding treaty.

Well if you look at the types of people God destroyed, like Sodom who gang raped anyone who entered their city, you get a better feel as to why he decided to destroy them.

In fact, looking at the world today it puzzles me why God is as merciful to evil people like our political leaders who gang rape us and destroy our civil society, but I digress.

I know they have a tipping point, or a point of no return where God will avenge the injustices all around us with ruthless abandon like in the days of Sodom

It gives me hope.

Do not confuse morality, and righteousness with man's idea of "good". The scriptures state that God is "morally" perfect, He is Holy (Isa. 6:3, Rev. 4:8), just and righteous (Ps. 89:14) and GOOD (Ps 100:6, 106:1).

Thus....being a morally perfect person/entity (as God is spirit) as state in Matthew 5:48......everything that God does, commands and approves must by necessity be GOOD (Ps. 119:39,68).

There are a few passages in scripture where some might be confused and assume "That is not the command of someone Good or Moral" and that might effect the picture that they might have concerning the Character of God. Especially in dealing with the nation of Biblical Israelites.

One such event would be when Israel had a commission to take control of the land of the Canaanites. The Lord God ordered Israel to "smite completely" the peoples thereof, and to show no mercy upon them (Deut. 7:1-5). God ordered Israel to totally destroy all that was in the city, the peoples, man, woman and child.....all their properties such as ox, sheep and ass. (Jos. 6:21).

How could a Merciful God be so unmerciful to these people? There are several things that must be considered. 1st: The Lord God had been very patient with these grossly immoral and paganistic tribes of people for a very long time.......God had promised this land to father Abraham's seed, but the time had not yet come as the "....iniquities of the Amorites is not yet full." (Genesis 15:16)

To consider this in rational fashion think of the sins of the these pagans filling a glass.......slowly, in spite of God's longsuffering the glass of iniquities by these tribes was being filled to point that it was overflowing, testing God's longsuffering patience. It finally got to the point that God could no longer tolerate this type of evil. This wickedness would have to be removed from the earth.......on a smaller scale than during the time of Noah the evil would be wiped from the land of promise....God lost His patience.

Archaeological discoveries such as those found at "Ugarit"....have revealed the corrupt nature of the people of the Canaanite Nations. Example: The chief religion was El and his son Baal....these were gods with no concept of morality toward their fellowmen. There is a historical "poem" about the god El.....who rapped/seduced 2 women and had immoral sexual perversions associated with his name. He married 3 of his own sisters who were also married to Baal the son, he practiced perverted sex and while influencing others to do the same. Sex was elevated as a form of worship. These pagans were also guilty of raiding other peoples and stealing their children to use as sex slaves or to sacrifice on a burning stake to their pagan gods.

Thus, when Israel invaded the land of the Canaanites they were ordered to totally destroy them in order to preserve the morality of Israel ".............so that they teach you (Israel) not to do all their abominations which they have done unto their gods so that ye sin against Jehovah your God." -- Deut. 20:18.

This was a type of surgery........to remove a cancer so that it would not be possible to corrupt God's chosen nation......Israel by having the customs and social mores' of the Canaanites infect Israel.

When you look at this action in relation to observing ETERNITY..........God acted righteously when ordering even the death of the children. Consider that it would have been far whose to allow these children to grow into adults and be responsible for their sins they might engage because of the immoral customs of the Canaanites. As children...they were sin free and would be allowed into heaven, as unrepentant adults, had they been allowed to grow into maturity they would be eternally damned. Thus...God removed this cancer from the earth totally.

Another thing to consider is the fact that simply because there is a history of a recorded event in the Old Testament.....that does not mean that God always condoned that action that was recorded. A true history includes the good, the bad and the ugly. The Old Testament is filled with history of heroes and villains alike who sinned........this does not mean that God condoned that sin or acts of immorality.

The God of the OT, was the One born as Yeshua. He came for many reasons. One of those was to REVEAL (introduce) the Father. Before His ministry, the only member of the Godhead we knew about was that mean old God who became a man.

Grow up. There's no bloody God and You know it.

Here we Go again. It's those godless democrats who "gang rape" people and destroy society. Really?

God my arse. There will be no judgement day or any other stupid religious threat. You've been conned.

Death is a judgment and all Leftists will surely die.

After all, could you imagine a socialist like Hitler living forever?

The only question becomes, is there a resurrection and/or a second death?

but at least YHWH doesn't have a sense of humour so it's not all bad...

SO? krishnah is blue. While making a picture of ALLAH is a capital crime-----it's ok
to "swear by the beard of allah" -----so long as it is muslim doing the swearing. I had a colleague from Jordan who told me about the
bar he frequented in Amman. I said "a bar
in Amman"? Isn't Jordan a muslim country?
The colleague was christian. He said----"of
course" and then told me about his muslim
friend "we met every day after school and he
would order two drinks for himself" "He
would say ""ONE FOR ALLAH AND ONE FOR
ME"" " <<< that would be a capital crime in lots of places. Even I could function in Jordan
and you too, Lysie

When I was a teenager and my aunt was assigned to a USAF base in Izmir, Turkey, she, a male Turkish friend of hers, my mother, and I when swimming at a luxury hotel near her apartment. I went off the high board and the top of my bathing suit slid down when I hit the water. I fixed the problem before I hit the surface. The man with us later told me that his bathing trunks slid down. Later, we went down the steps off the pool apron to go to the hotel bar. Long room, with a long bar, behind which was a glass wall that faced the pool underwater with people padding by. It turns out that I was part of the show. I needed that shot of raki. A few years ago, I lived by an attache from the Pakistani embassy. He used to come over for a chat and a few glasses of pinot grigio outside of his wife's hawk eye. He told me that Pakistanis just made gin in the bathtub but had to be careful not to be seen appearing drunk on the streets.

When engaging in a battle of wits with the Holy Spirit (the inspired source of all scripture -- 2 Tim. 3:16), its best not to show up with an empty chamber. Never hear of the "Perfect Law of Liberty"? (James 1:25-27). How about 1 Cor. 13:10? "But when that which is PERFECT (complete, whole....in the original Greek)............"

Evidence of this "subjective" bigoted opinion as being true? :dunno: You present no objective evidence because "none" exists. Its always the same by those who want to discredit the Holy Scriptures because they contain certain truths that judges the lifestyle of the "WANABE" prosecutors of the Holy Scriptures. :eusa_think:

Another example of a "smart" person knowing more thousands of years removed from the text.......than the God that inspired the scriptures? Its a most easy thing to know these individuals when they show up...........there is never any evidence presented........just TALK.

The scriptures themselves describe individuals such as this..........you are dealing with a "FOOL". "A fool has no delight in understanding, but in expressing his own heart (Proverbs 18:2). And once a fools mouth starts flapping, we are given full evidence to how little is there. "A prudent man conceals knowledge, but the heart of a fool proclaims foolishness." -- Proverbs 12:23. "The tongue of the wise uses knowledge wisely, but the mouth of fools pour out foolishness." -- Proverbs 15:12

I have no idea what you're saying, but .....

Be ye therefore perfect, even as your. Father which is in heaven is perfect. ... as your Father in heaven is perfect -- Jesus

ye can not be perfect (nor is it desired) - purity is the required means for admission to the Everlasting.

a&e's choice for self determination and their judgement is dependent on the state of purity being accomplished for admission - the religion of antiquity as prescribed. no such perception exists referred to as perfect - related to religious principles or morality - than maybe such as structures of the elements that are mathematically exact.

all in the heavens are pure - not especially equal, christian sinners need not apply ... as early the desert religions were poltheistic before they became political and their false messiah syndrome.

They didn't destroy the Canaanites.. They didn't even interrupt their villages. They were involved in mining, metallurgy and pottery making. They were guarded by Egyptian garrisons and paid tribute to Pharaoh.
