Obama basically built his campaign on trashing Bush, blaming Bush and the republicans for all the problems of the world.

Wonder if Obama would admit that the shoe is on the other foot now.

I don't think Obama destroyed the Democrats. Last night's results showed the Obama basically was an exception. The Democrats have been dead in the water for a while.

Let's look back. Republicans pretty solidly dominated politics from 2000-2006. Back in '06, I was pretty vocal that the Democrats hadn't really won in the midterms, so much as the GOP had lost. Bush effectively destroyed the GOP during the 2000-2006 period through the Iraq war and his bloating of the debt in that period. 2006 was a repudiation of what the GOP did during that period and when the DNC took over Congress, they literally had no plan.

In 2008, the DNC held and expanded their majorities as they rode Obama's coat-tails to victory. But right there was the seeds of destruction. Obama brought in folks that didn't vote in midterms and usually had weak turnout in Presidential years. In 2010, things returned to form and the DNC was tossed out on it's ear. In 2012, Obama was easily relected as the GOP held control of Congress. 2014 the GOP again held onto Congress, despite Obama's popularity.

Meanwhile, at the State level the GOP has kept cleaning up. There's been no real DNC comeback at the state level since they started losing the State houses waaaayyyy back. With no real State level party, the DNC was a shallow pool. It essentially had Obama, and that was it. Obama has enjoyed fairly high favorability among recent Presidents and continues to do so as he leaves office, but it did the DNC literally no good.

So here we are. Clinton lost in the Electoral college thanks to the fact that her turn out among groups that elected Obama was absolutely horrible. And in chasing those groups, the DNC lost a lot in the general voting pool. They still haven't started to come back at the State level and they have no one on the bench of any level of noteriety. They're in real trouble.
