They aren't...anymore. He got a bump after March 13th because, well, that's what US voters do when there is a crisis, they rally around their leaders. But, that bump is evaporating.

Again, when you analyze the moving average of polls from day to day, you have to consider that the IBD, Politico, and Reuters polls--which had approval numbers in the 45% and 46% range, and thus accounted for the slight downtick in the overall moving average from prior days, represented the highest approval numbers for the entire year in those polls (in other words, not a decrease in job approval).

There is nothing unproven about this drug...

It is safe and in use for 67 years.

Use for COVID19 is a no lose situation as the drug is proven to slow or stop replication in the blood and it slows the hyper-cytoplast response which causes pneumonia. This has been proven in the lab. It is individual response that is in question.

Every so often I have had conversations with people who are sure some shady supplement is a golden road to better health. The refrain is always the same, science is wrong, studies are wrong, this stuff is the Shit. This feels like that. If it ends up doing something valuable that's great but Trump is nothing like a medical doctor and his medical opinions are worthless.

This all reminds me of something that happened back in the 70s. There was a piece of quackery called "latrile". According to some it was a miracle cure for cancer. There were even "studies" that supposedly proved all sorts of miracles. Notably, Steve McQueen went off conventional treatment and went down to Mexico where he could get this stuff after which he quickly succumbed to mesothelioma.

There are no magic bullets here. Don't take medical advice from politicians, it's like getting financial advice from a doctor.

Then Hydroxychloroquine is still harmful because it suppresses the immune system and allows any virus infection to increase.

The only time Hydroxychloroquine is helpful is if the immune system response is out of control and threatens to be more deadly than the disease itself.

COVID-19 is just a recent variant of SARS and MERS, so lot of trials of things like hydroxychloroquine have been extensively tested in the past.
So we do know.
Why would we not know?
And as for masks, while they do work, they work best as spit shields that prevent you from spreading it, not for defense against it, so home made ones are the way everyone out of the medical profession should go.
