The idea that abortion should be left up to the states is a stupid arbitrary position republicans embrace purely for political reasons

is there something in the constitution that makes this known? No of course not. Republicans in office are simply conveniently embracing this idea to soften their stances post Roe being overturned. They are such cowards. They will say anything to help their chances in an election. How does anyone justify voting them? They don’t have any actual principles.

Hell, as much as I am pro-choice, I at least give credit to Graham and Pence for having a genuine principled stance on issue before an election. The rest of them though? Spineless, international embarrassments.

Yes, the 10th Amendment.
Maybe you should read it.

There are two seperate arguments here. Are many Republicans trying to back track after what they saw in Kansas? Absolutely.

Can one make arguments legitimately that it should be left to the states? Absolutely.

The argument comes out of thin air. Who decides what is federally protected and what isn’t?

There are obvious things like voting which is clearly explained in the Constitution and then there are things that are not, that society decides in different ways.

Why would lefties want a (unconstitutional) decree from the federal government instead of a democratic system? Why don't lefties trust the democratic process? The dirty little secret about abortion is that the segment of society it benefits most is the liberal male who sees his future responsibilities eliminated at the stroke of a scalpel while the woman often lives with symptoms similar to PTSD for the rest of her life.

Well it’s not society judging it. It’s those in power.

So if abortion should be up to the federal government then you must be fine with the federal government setting your state tax rate. your state, county and city workers wages. Your cities prices for water and sewer. Why not hand over all laws and rates over to the federal government? Oh that’s right because the federal government is limited by the fourth amendment. Funny how laws get in the way of feelings

There is also a very valid argument to make that the government should not be involved in such personal, medical matters.

Right to bear arms?

in the constitution.

Right to free speech, etc?

in the constitution.

Right to an abortion?

NOT in the constitution.
From a constitutional standpoint you are correct, but purely from a philosophical one,
It is arbitrary.

So you could also make the same point about any new drug before it is fully tested or assisted suicide or dozens of other things

Whatever the people vote for, they vote for. The reality is that we have over a million abortions a year. The states which are more difficult to get one have a small percentage of that. Most states would go to 15 weeks. 50 years of this came to a head and the answer to the issue although not perfect comes with a logical solution.
