Mandela started out as a revolutionary dedicated to peaceful resistance. After being met with violence by the South African government he advocated violence in return. He was eventually thrown in jail and given a life sentence. This is where he learned humility and how to reach out to those who were abusive to him and he saved his nation from a looming bloody civil war. The man will now become a legend. And it is well earned.

What are we cleanly debating here ?

That he died ? I think that has been pretty well established.

One thing you have to say for him is that he was a tough old bird. Payback's a bitch after aparteid. African Whites who have owned property for a hundred years now have their land confiscated and fear being murdered in their homes. Is that what Hussein followers have in mind for Americans?

RIP Mr. Mandela

The lesson of Mandela is valuable for all. Suffer an injustice and deal with it with class, composure and forgiveness and much will come to you. Today we spent a moment of silence during the national Water Polo finals.

If you are black will you suffer discrimination. Absolutely. If you deal with it like Mandela you will earn the respect of us all. It isn't what discrimination you suffer it is how you deal with it like a man!

Add in he basically forgave his captors.

What now? Will South Africa remain a Developed Country or descend into chaos a la Zimbabwe?
