The GOP Is Falling Apart

First, I don't think ANY President that I can recall in my lifetime has been put under the public microscope and been victim to a relentless negative media/left-wingnut barrage as Bush.

You're kidding, right? Bill Clinton spent 6 years being assaulted by the rabid right.

And I DO think that any feeling that each and every thing he does warrants some kind of investigation stems directly from THAT.

Not our fault if he's been so arrogant he didn't think he had to be accountable. At least it's not about whether he cheated on his wife.

I believe I acknowledged that, and I disagreed with it then and now.

It's about every word he utters and every step he takes, but other than that "no biggee".

At the time, it was against the law in DC to commit adultery. He committed a crime he was never charged with.

Be that as it may, I disagreed with the spectacle made of that as much as I do anything going on currently.

But let's get one thing clear and burst a few preconceived bubbles in the process. I KNEW Linda Tripp from when I was stationed in DC. She was a holier-than-thou, sanctimonious, self-important bureaucratic bitch. Her accusation didn't come from partisanship. It came from self-righteous indignation stemming from Clinton trying to get rid of her.

One thing you DON'T mess with in DC are the bureaucratic lifers. They don't keep a deathgrip on those jobs for nothing, and they can and will bring down EVEN the President if he crosses them.

Clinton made it worse and dragged it out longer than need be by refusing to confess; which, he ended up doing in the end. Well, sort of.

and I will say this about my own personal views of the president:

I was upset at the way he came into office in 2000. I was especially upset at how he made winning the electoral college while losing the popular vote into some "mandate". I was not overtly displeased with his performance as president from inauguration until 9/11 - not any more than I would have been for any republican.

In the days following 9/11, I was VERY impressed with Bush. I think he led America with a steady, steely resolve in those early days and I supported him. I offered to go back on active duty even though I had been retired since '93. I was on his side.

He lost me at Tora Bora. He lost me when he just quit talking about Osama and started talking about Saddam.

From my service in the region, I knew full well the fundamental difference between pan-arab socialist ba'athism and extreme Islamic fundamentalist wahhabism. I knew from day one that there would be no way that Saddam would have anything to do with 9/11 nor anything to do with Osama bin Laden. I knew from day one that there would be no reason in Hell why Saddam would provide weapons of mass destruction - even if he had them - to a group of folks whose goal was his own demise and the eradication of his nation-state.

The more Team Bush continued to imply the connection between Saddam and Al Qaeda, the more I drifted away from him. When we invaded Iraq, I knew that he had done something terrible to America. I knew that he had unleashed a beast that was better left caged. I knew he had abandoned the fight against the people who had flown airplanes into our buildings and had shifted targets to some neocon/PNAC vision of American influence in the middle east and it infuriated me... and still does.

and yet libs said Clinton winning with 46% in 1992 and 43% in 1996 was a mandate

The liberal media gave cover to Clinton to all his problems and attacked those who opposed him

I stated my personal view above. If you can find a post from me from any site and any time where I claimed that Clinton ever received a "mandate" from the electorate, please post it. Other than that, I really must say that it is tedious to day after day post MY opinions about things only to have you ignore what I say and go after "libs".

That was the standard talking point from your party and the liberal media

Now when Pres Bush has a higher vote percentage - it is a fluke and/or stolen election

why don't you write a computer program where your conservative newsbot will dig out RNC talking points and debate them endlessly with DNC talking points and take the whole automated discussion somewhere else? I could give a fuck what the standard talking point from my party or the liberal media was or is. I write all my own stuff. I come to all my own conclusions. Do me a HUGE favor: either debate ME, or ignore me. But please quit using my posts as a platform to spew your RNC talking points about liberals and the media ad nauseum.

Since when do you care what your party says and does? You only care about political power, and everything else is secondary

when will you ever debate me? I care about issues. As it presently is written, the platform of the democratic party deals with all of my major issues in ways that I find much more acceptable than the ways the republican platform deals with those same issues. I know that if you want to score in politics - if you want to cause anything to change in ways that you want to change it - your team has to be at bat.... your team has to have a majority. That is how politics works!

You make the drive for seats in congress and the drive to elect a president seem like some BAD thing. If you believe in platform of your party, then you want to see it succeed. You do exactly the same thing.

Thanks for clearing things up. I always knew you did not care waht your Dems say and want to do - you have now admitted it

But I DO care what the democrats want to do....and if they ever start wanting to do things that go against the democratic party platform as it exists today, I will not support them.

tell me you do not want republicans to retake congress in '08.

So you support surrender, higher taxes, the increasing pork Dems are trying to pass, government run health care, and the amnesty bill?

Glad to know where you stand

tell me you do not support the republican platform and that you do not want to see republicans elected to a majority in congress and hold onto the white house so that that platform might be advanced.

the amnesty bill is at the top of my list right now

So far Dems have broken every promise they made to get elected, and that seem to be fine with you

I didn't ask you what was on the top of your list. I asked you if you did or did not support the republican party platform and if you did or did not want to see republicans gain a majority in congress and hold onto the white house so that the issues contained in that platform might be advanced.

can you answer that question?

So far, I agree with most of what I have heard

You on the other hand, do not care Dems have lied, and been called on it

Keep the spin cycle running MM

of COURSE I care if politicians lie....when have I ever said I didn't care about that?

you didn't answer my question...why do you keep running away from it?

I asked you if you did or did not support the republican party platform and if you did or did not want to see republicans gain a majority in congress and hold onto the white house so that the issues contained in that platform might be advanced. JUST ANSWER THAT QUESTION

I realize that not everything the republican party does makes you happy, but, on the whole, they support what you support so you support them and not the democrats. isn't that correct?

I have numbnuts

So far I have not heard what Rudy thinks of the amnesty bill

Mitt and Fred have come out against it

Now, if the Republicnas in Congress would go back to Reagan conservatism - we would regain both Houses and keep the WH in 08
