When you get into your 40s (your generation is having kids later) I am GenX...and see that small Gov't is better than big Gov't many will switch their views. I am an Independent but my views now due to my job and kids are now more closely aligned with the GOP.

I tolerate the Republican Party. I identify as a conservative, and their STATED positions align most closely with mine; unfortunately, when it comes time to put words into action, my experience has always been that the GOP doesn't have a complete set of testicles among the whole sorry lot of them. I'm obviously not going to vote for someone who says right out that they're going to push for odious policies, but I'm not exactly thrilled with having no choice but to vote for people I know are a bunch of cowards who will cave to odious policies the minute the media calls them a name.

I'm not talking about the actual, physical heart, which has nothing to do with what Churchill was saying. The heart he's talking about is the ability to emote and empathize. Emotions, biologically speaking, are just chemicals produced by your glands. They have a purpose, but it's not to take the place of thought and reason. So yeah, when someone tells you to "have a heart", they're saying "feel instead of think", or - as I put it - "think with your glands instead of your brain".

It already is accepted. Gay marriage is legal, and LGBT rights are here now. Right now.

Hate to break it to you, but it's mostly just tolerated rather than accepted, because most Americans really don't care that much about what their neighbors do as long as it doesn't bother them.
