The FDR speech in 1936 at the unveiling of the magnificent Robert E Lee memorial statue.

FDR never vigorously opposed and confronted Southern apartheid. If ANY national politician of EITHER party did that in those days … his career would be FINISHED. Did you not know this? Did they not teach you this in school? Does all this really surprise you?
That is a poor explanation of FDR's GLOWING SPEECH about a great man and a Southern Gentlemen Robert E Lee. If "Southern Apartheid" was such a politically charged subject back then, the obvious thing to do was talk about the horror of that war and Lee's statue as a remembrance of what we should never again repeat. But that isn't the speech he gave, was it? Taking down Lee's statue is a classic example of history being rewritten by the misguided Woke Left.

Robert E. Lee was great man. He never approved of the war and never owned a slave. He was more loyal to Virginia than the nation. He would never betray his home. He was irreplaceable after the war in peacemaking. Once the Civil War was over did not mean the end of hostilities. General Lee was tireless in creating peace.

It will be up to Historians and those who believe in truth to make sure accurate history is not lost.
Where do you dumb pieces of shit get your bullshit from or do you just make it up out of thin air? Yes, Lee owned slaves that is a well known fact that cant be denied.

"Lee’s cruelty as a slave master was not confined to physical punishment. In Reading the Man, the historian Elizabeth Brown Pryor’s portrait of Lee through his writings, Pryor writes that “Lee ruptured the Washington and Custis tradition of respecting slave families” by hiring them off to other plantations, and that “by 1860 he had broken up every family but one on the estate, some of whom had been together since Mount Vernon days.” The separation of slave families was one of the most unfathomably devastating aspects of slavery, and Pryor wrote that Lee’s slaves regarded him as “the worst man I ever see.”

The one that laid the groundwork for our current Socialist Democrats, of course. That would be FDR and not the Southern gentleman forced into a role he did not want.
No one forced Robert E. Lee to betray America, dumbass.

The traitor had a choice. He could have sat it out instead of being responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Not just FDR, but Woodrew Wilson -- the first Southern President since the Civil War and a vicious racist to boot -- adored Robert E. Lee. On the Republican side, Dwight Eisenhower had a picture of Robert E. Lee on his office wall and publicly explained why he likewise admired the man as one of the greatest of all Americans. This adoration of the Confederate general has deep roots in American society.

It is important to understand its origin and its connection with the rise of Jim Crow, the growth of "Lost Cause" nostalgia and the profound national acceptance of white supremacy. From the highest reaches of academia to the lowest rungs of "white trash," and virtually all places between, equal rights and opportunities were denied African Americans openly and without shame until the Civil Rights Movement and MLK came on the scene. The bestowing of heroic status on Robert E. Lee played a part in all of this, as statues of him and many lesser and truly despicable Confederate leaders, along with Confederate Flags, "blossomed" throughout the Jim Crow "Old South," and even on U.S. military bases.

One place to read how all this occurred is in this 2011 article by the U.S. government-financed National Endowment for the Humanities: How Did Robert E. Lee Become an American Icon?

A lovely article by one of my favorite writers:

We Have a More Sophisticated Censorship Than the Defunct Soviet Union Had

Self-interested virtue-signaling to the elitist race-traitors who determine what gets published.

I have major issues with FDR, but he was honest and forthright in this memorial speech praising Robert E Lee as a great man and a great American. What has happened to today's Democrats?

The things that I learn here!

Thanks.

This would be a happier nation today if more young men were gentlemen, as General Lee was.

This is 2021.

Is the statue still standing in Dallas?

If it is, it's just a matter of time before it is torn down.

After all, who could have ever imagined that his statue would be removed in the capital of the Confederate States of America?!

This particular Dallas statue was removed in September 2017. Of course Confederate flags and Confederate statues built in the Jim Crow apartheid era have been disappearing from courthouses, public schools, public plazas and state capitols for decades now. This was mostly a natural, healthy and democratic inevitability once Jim Crow laws and laws preventing African Americans from voting were overturned. The “New South” replaced the “Old South” — but many find this difficult to accept, as shown in this article:

of course, your statement is a load of horse shit you know.

The tremendous President Warren G. Harding delivered a fabulous speech against Liberal Racism in Birmingham, Alabama on October 26. 1921. Huge crowd of both blacks and whites in the middle of Deep Blue, ultraliberal Alabama- which went 2-1 against him in November 1920.

Harding's career was hardly finished, he was a tremendously popular President.

Some of the right's criticism of the "woke left" and "angry left" is absolutely valid. I say that as a Democrat too.

I remember a time when U.S. Soldiers were CHEERED for taking down a statue.

Any slight difference between today's Democrats and the Nazis of FDR's time has now been completely erased.

Their thirst for, and celebration of, the destruction of art is particularly telling.

I should thank you for bringing this speech to our attention, but you hurt your “argument” — whatever it is — by your party-partisan misuse of words like “liberalism.”

I certainly agree that proud “Lincoln Republican” Warren Harding, whose ancestors were Ohio abolitionists, was far more open minded toward African Americans than the wretched southern racist Woodrow Wilson, who resegregated D.C. and showed pro-Klan films at the White House. Of course the “Professorial” Wilson had ALSO originally claimed he would help blacks, and initially also even got support from W.EB. Dubois.

But Harding did not campaign or get elected because he opposed Jim Crow or favored black social & legal equality. Rather he campaigned for “a return to normalcy” after WWI. His campaign platform was for “America First” and argued:

“America's present need is not heroics, but healing; not nostrums, but normalcy; not revolution, but restoration; not agitation, but adjustment; not surgery, but serenity; not the dramatic, but the dispassionate; not experiment, but equipoise; not submergence in internationality, but sustainment in triumphant nationality."

Warren Harding’s 1921 speech in newly industrialized Birmingham was indeed — by the terrible American standards of the time — “progressive” and “liberal” on race. But the stony hostility he received from even Republican white Alabamans in the audience showed the depths of racism in 1920s America. He said then nothing about the just completed Tulsa massacre nor did he ever initiate federal prosecutions for that and similar outrages across the country. He did support federal “anti-lynching” legislation, but allowed even that to be dropped in the Senate when it threatened passage of his legislation for subsidies to American shipping interests.

The speech you link to was certainly interesting but it was only a speech and soon forgotten. Warren Harding died after only two years in office and his legacy was not at all marked by significant progress for black Americans, but marred by scandals like “Teapot Dome.”

Your reference to “ultra liberal Alabama” is absurd. As is your reference to “his famous speech against Liberal racism.” Alabama was an overwhelmingly conservative, deeply racist, legally and socially apartheid “Blue” state in those days, where the Klan thrived. The situation then was not much better for African Americans in the rest of the country either, where blacks were a deeply oppressed race color caste, almost “untouchables.” Racist anti-“miscegenation” laws existed in most states.

Shirk and Jerk

The "New South" is represented by Jimmy Carter, a sanctimonious and unpatriotic con man. Peanut Boy was eligible for the draft in June of 1942. So he finagled his way into the Naval Academy in order to sit out the war as a cadet. Does anyone know what the other countries in the war did with their service academies? I imagine they put all their plebes on active duty and sent them to the front.
