1. Medicare will be bankrupt in 2024 unless it is "fixed". Repubs can't do anything unless the Senate & WH agree. One FIX is that no one gets Medicare unless they paid into Medicare.

2. Social Security will go insolvent, paying only 70% of promised benefits, in 2034, so a few small improvements would be all that is needed to extend SS well into the future.
  • Raise the 62 early retirement age to 64, which better aligns with the Medicare age of 65 to keep medical insurance
  • Raise the cap on earnings
So BOTH the House and Senate need to work on "fixing" SS & Medicare, or 2024 will be a wipeout one way or the other. The GOP needs to muzzle Sen. Rick Scott to keep his moronic fixes out of the news. Nothing needs to be aired publicly until the DEAL/COMPROMISE is reached.

I don't believe they need to raise the early retirement age. People who choose this option currently are losing 25% of their monthly benefit and must live past about age 75 before they would recoup those losses but I am a proponent of your proposal to raise the cap on earnings. I also believe that every person in the US should have to pay into SS. Many state and municipal workers are exempt from paying into the fund.

EXACTLY! As long as they do SOMETHING to extend SS they can tweek it again later.

Pretty remarkable for Wao to have a burst of honesty. That said SS will be insolvent by 2035 unless someone starts paying more now, either the wealthier by raising or eliminating the cap, or poor stiffs by now having to work until 80 before they see a penny.
