Let's also take into consideration that Italy makes all our swabs--no swabs. That our pharmaceutical companies aren't making enough reagent (or are selling it to other countries--who knows.)

I'm still wondering what will happen to the "established" 18-month protocol for new vaccines versus what Trump will be pushing for to get the COVID vaccine out the door ASAP. IMHO Trump will "manage" that time period to as short as possible. I'm sure it will be less than 12-months. Similarly, the anti-body test and fast HCQ tests so we can get back to work.

I didn't realize Trump himself had to make an Executive Order to change a regulation in any of his agencies. Are you sure about that? The FDA, not Trump, made the statement on compassionate use. Or am I wrong there?

“It was heartbreaking to watch,” said Bao-Ping Zhu, a Chinese American who served in that role, which was funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, between 2007 and 2011. “If someone had been there, public health officials and governments across the world could have moved much faster.”

Zhu and the other sources said the American expert, Dr. Linda Quick, was a trainer of Chinese field epidemiologists who were deployed to the epicenter of outbreaks to help track, investigate and contain diseases. As an American CDC employee, they said, Quick was in an ideal position to be the eyes and ears on the ground for the United States and other countries on the coronavirus outbreak, and might have alerted them to the growing threat weeks earlier.

No other foreign disease experts were embedded to lead the program after Quick left in July, according to the sources. Zhu said an embedded expert can often get word of outbreaks early, after forming close relationships with Chinese counterparts.

Zhu and the other sources said Quick could have provided real-time information to U.S. and other officials around the world during the first weeks of the outbreak, when they said the Chinese government tamped down on the release of information and provided erroneous assessments.
Quick left amid a bitter U.S. trade dispute with China when she learned her federally funded post, officially known as resident adviser to the U.S. Field Epidemiology Training Program in China, would be discontinued as of September, the sources said. The U.S. CDC said it first learned of a “cluster of 27 cases of pneumonia” of unexplained origin in Wuhan, China, on Dec. 31.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda, yea yea yea.
In China no info comes out unless they put it out, just ask google. If you think otherwise you don't know how they can clamp down. Whether we have a Dr Quick there or send one over to investigate, they would not be allowed free access. China had a lid on it and that was that.

that is why having a scientist doctor embedded there is needed.... why Bush created the position after SARS I believe around 2005, and Obama continued the position.... BECAUSE China was never that honest about these diseases.

What China did by trying to hide it, was NOT uncommon for them.... we ALWAYS KNEW they lied in near all instances previously, also shut social media down to hide things and THIS IS WHY we created the position there in China.

WHICH makes great sense!

In theory you are correct, but in practice, China has "minders" that keep the US folks under strict control as to where they can go and what info they have access to. So since 2005 that position did what? Not much. There are better places for Dr. Quick to use her talents every day.
