The endless search for a scapegoat continues unabated.

U.S. CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield maintained the agency’s presence in China “is actually being augmented as we speak,” without elaborating.

"In a statement to Reuters before the report was published, the CDC said the elimination of the adviser position did not hinder Washington’s ability to get information and “had absolutely nothing to do with CDC not learning of cases in China earlier.”

The agency said its decision not to have a resident adviser “started well before last summer and was due to
China’s excellent technical capability and maturity of the program.”
This Dr. Robert Redfield?

How the CDC director became the MAGA whisperer on coronavirus
Robert Redfield is becoming Trump's point man with a fervent crowd that has been deeply skeptical of the pandemic.

I wish you Trumpette's were as skeptical of statements made either by the admin or personnel under its control (given their track record of lying) as you are about reporting coming from news organizations.

They did opt to not declare it an international issue initially, which was apparently a very divided decision and ultimately wrong. Their stated reason was not wanting to single out a country and because they said they had no evidence of human to human transmission outside of China.

This was a mistake. That mistake likely could have been avoided if China wasn't lying to the world and/or if the WHO was less concerned with political correctness than it should be, given its supposed role

That's not scapegoating, that's simply what happened. The WHO fucked up. No question, no doubt.
Wrong! - China & the WHO don't defend this country, collect intel for US or make US policy.

Trump FAILED US!!! Trump knew about new coronavirus in November last year!

December 31, 2019 - China investigates SARS-like virus as dozens struck by pneumonia

CCTV & media broadcast new Coronavirus outbreak to the world on Jan 9, 2020

December 31, 2019 - Pneumonia cluster reported in Wuhan, Hubei Province China

It's quite possible that the Chinese government would have had a more difficult time concealing the outbreak if Dr. Quick's position had not been de-funded by Trump.

The defunding of the US embed to China’s CDC, briefly explained
As Redfield mentioned, the US and China have long collaborated on matters of public health. As part of that collaboration, China has allowed the US to embed a public health official in its CDC.

Until July 2019, that embed was Dr. Linda Quick, an epidemiologist. Quick led a program that trained Chinese epidemiologists in methods for discovering, tracking, researching, and containing diseases — like Covid-19.

She reportedly came back to the US after being told her position would be discontinued in September 2019 in part due to the ongoing trade war between the US and China, and chose to return early, in July.

Once she came back to the US, she was not replaced by the US or any other foreign government, leading to a series of events that Bao-Ping Zhu, who held Quick’s position during the Obama administration, told Reuters was “heartbreaking to watch.”

“If someone had been there, public health officials and governments across the world could have moved much faster,” Zhu said.

Essentially, governments around the world might have been able to begin responding in early December, when the first Chinese cases were reported, rather than in late December, when China informed the World Health Organization it had begun to notice cases of a novel illness.

It is possible that the Chinese government would have had a more difficult time concealing the outbreak if Dr. Quick's position had not been de-funded by Trump.

:p

It is also possible and more probable, as the experts say in the article you posted, that it would not have made a damn bit of difference how may 'advisors' we hade there as the evidence shows China did everything they could to hide the epidemic.

Wrong, my ass. I posted what happened at the WHO, based on the WHO's own statements, but, hey, maybe they were lying about what they did and why they did it, eh? Sure, that makes sense. LOL.

And oddly enough my post was 100% about the WHO's actions, none of which you did, or can, contest, so you opt to deflect. Try a more subtle tactic, that one is used far too often not to be recognized for the logical fallacy that it is.

As I noted, you choose to believe the "experts" who are covering up for the decision to de-fund the position.

The embed’s removal is emblematic of the criticism Trump has faced over his coronavirus response
Questions over what Quick could have done had she been allowed to stay in China come as the Trump administration faces numerous questions about its handling of the coronavirus pandemic, and as it weathers a great deal of criticism from health care providers and state and local officials about the speed and seriousness of its response.

When the Trump administration first realized the coronavirus would be a serious problem has been an open question. Redfield has said the CDC learned of the threat it posed on December 31; Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said he learned January 3; Trump has said he was told sometime in late January or early February — a claim officials told the Washington Post is very much at odds with reality.

Deflecting justified criticism away from himself isn't the Biogot-in-Chief's only motivation for going after the WHO.

Trump Attacks W.H.O. Over Criticisms of U.S. Approach to Coronavirus
In effect, the president sought to blame the group for the very missteps and failures that have been leveled at him and his administration.

WASHINGTON — President Trump lashed out on Tuesday at the World Health Organization, choosing a new political enemy to attack and threatening to withhold funding from a premier health institution even as a deadly virus ravages nations around the globe.

“We’re going to put a hold on money spent to the W.H.O. We’re going to put a very powerful hold on it and we’re going to see,” Mr. Trump said during the daily coronavirus briefing at the White House, accusing the organization of having not been aggressive enough in confronting the virus. “They called it wrong. They call it wrong. They really, they missed the call.”

In effect, Mr. Trump sought to denounce the W.H.O. for the very missteps and failures that have been leveled at him and his administration. Public health experts have said the president’s public denials of the virus’s dangers slowed the American response, which included delayed testing and a failure to stockpile protective gear.
Classic narcissist move.

From your article, Trump gives his reasons for why the WHO was wrong. You didn't give any rationale' or facts why Trump was wrong. Hint: Trump is right, the WHO screwed-up, so this is just one of your daily TDS troll threads.

"They did give us some pretty bad play calling ... with regard to us, they’re taking a lot of heat because they didn’t want the borders closed, they called it wrong. They really called, I would say, every aspect of it wrong,” Trump said at a White House press conference Tuesday.
I'm not sure what Trump is bitching about; since he paid no attention to the WHO's advice on closing the border--he did it anyway. So how did the WHO's advice affect us?

Trump doesn't like anyone that doesn't bow down and kiss our ass, so it doesn't surprise me. HE made a mistake of his own, though, by not taking the WHO's test kits. Was that pettiness because he doesn't like their parent, the UN?

Let the EU use the WHO's test kits. In the US we only allow approved test kits proven for accuracy. The problem was that the CDC test was soooooooo slowwwwww. New tests had to be developed, now we're doing about 200,000 tests per day, soon to be in the millions per day.

The WHO was wrong and Trump called them on it
The problem was that the CDC's new test kits didn't work. THAT's part of why CDC was so slowwwww. "We only allow approved test kits proven for accuracy?" Let's also take into consideration that Italy makes all our swabs--no swabs. That our pharmaceutical companies aren't making enough reagent (or are selling it to other countries--who knows.)
Some of those factors should have been taken into consideration before rejecting available kits from WHO. They could have tested one to see if it worked. Seemed to be working everywhere else.

IT WAS A MISTAKE FUELED BY ARROGANCE AND/OR PETTINESS.

It was a Federal regulation that Trump didn't mess with.
I can just imagine the screaming if Trump started issuing EOs revising established CDC and FDA regulations.
(It wasn't a Trump mistake)
Kyzr, he is quite publicly pushing and taking credit for the use of the anti-malarial drug that is still being tested. Way before the FDA allowed compassionate use of it. Trump has NO problem sticking his nose in and throwing out established regulations when it comes to the environment, though.

There is a big difference between expressing an opinion, and throwing out federal regulations. China and France tested HCQ and published results. Here is a link to the US clinical trials for HCQ if you work thru the drop down menus: Home - ClinicalTrials.gov
I'm still wondering what will happen to the "established" 18-month protocol for new vaccines versus what Trump will be pushing for to get the COVID vaccine out the door ASAP. IMHO Trump will "manage" that time period to as short as possible. I'm sure it will be less than 12-months. Similarly, the anti-body test and fast HCQ tests so we can get back to work.
I didn't realize Trump himself had to make an Executive Order to change a regulation in any of his agencies. Are you sure about that? The FDA, not Trump, made the statement on compassionate use. Or am I wrong there?

1. Trump can issue an EO to add a disease to the quarantine disease list
2. The 1st link says that ALL testing is by the CDC as per LAW, so I don't think Trump's EO would be legal
Okay, that's why I asked. Thanks. I'm not going to try getting into the weeds about agency regulations. I'm trusting you on this.

Damned fine job, berg80. This is what I call a THREAD.

The CDC bungled this thing in virtually every way possible sand Trumpers initially noticed that...until Trump pointed them in a different direction

"Normally the leader of the Centers for Disease Control would be the face of a global public health response. But his agency’s stumbles early in the pandemic — on testing, the Diamond Princess cruise ship evacuation and blunt messaging on the worsening outbreak that got ahead of the White House — sidelined him. He does few national interviews, and while he attended Wednesday's White House coronavirus briefing, he's been a sporadic presence in that venue. "

Redfield is a TRUMP appointee...and a very controversial one from the beginning.

So let's get this straight..... the USA had a Doctor Scientist position with the WHO at their China base, so that we could keep an eye on china and the viruses coming out of there, to keep the USA abreast of what was going on over there and not let china lie to us about any outbreaks

But President Trump, in 2018, removed that person because he claims he ran out of money to keep the person there or simply did not believe in it...

And now he is blaming the WHO? Instead of himself, for letting this very very important position being dropped by HIM?
Got a link for that post??
correction...it wasn't the WHO in China but our CDC person embedded in China, and the position was eliminated by the trump administration just a few months before the virus broke in China in 2019

WASHINGTON - Several months before the coronavirus pandemic began, the Trump administration eliminated a key American public health position in Beijing intended to help detect disease outbreaks in China, Reuters has learned.

The American disease expert, a medical epidemiologist embedded in China’s disease control agency, left her post in July, according to four sources with knowledge of the issue. The first cases of the new coronavirus may have emerged as early as November, and as cases exploded, the Trump administration in February chastised China for censoring information about the outbreak and keeping U.S. experts from entering the country to help.

“It was heartbreaking to watch,” said Bao-Ping Zhu, a Chinese American who served in that role, which was funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, between 2007 and 2011. “If someone had been there, public health officials and governments across the world could have moved much faster.”

Zhu and the other sources said the American expert, Dr. Linda Quick, was a trainer of Chinese field epidemiologists who were deployed to the epicenter of outbreaks to help track, investigate and contain diseases. As an American CDC employee, they said, Quick was in an ideal position to be the eyes and ears on the ground for the United States and other countries on the coronavirus outbreak, and might have alerted them to the growing threat weeks earlier.

No other foreign disease experts were embedded to lead the program after Quick left in July, according to the sources. Zhu said an embedded expert can often get word of outbreaks early, after forming close relationships with Chinese counterparts.

Zhu and the other sources said Quick could have provided real-time information to U.S. and other officials around the world during the first weeks of the outbreak, when they said the Chinese government tamped down on the release of information and provided erroneous assessments.
Quick left amid a bitter U.S. trade dispute with China when she learned her federally funded post, officially known as resident adviser to the U.S. Field Epidemiology Training Program in China, would be discontinued as of September, the sources said. The U.S. CDC said it first learned of a “cluster of 27 cases of pneumonia” of unexplained origin in Wuhan, China, on Dec. 31.

Trump blames WHO for getting coronavirus pandemic wrong, threatens to withhold funding

President Donald Trump blamed the World Health Organization for getting “every aspect” of the coronavirus pandemic wrong and threatened to withhold funding from the international organization.
................................................................................................
The sad truth is Trump got “every aspect” of the coronavirus pandemic wrong. Even sadder, Trumpleton's will lap up the deflection like an alcoholic laps up Jack Daniels.

It is asswipePINO's fault, I know of four bipartisan MOC's that prove that.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda, yea yea yea.
In China no info comes out unless they put it out, just ask google. If you think otherwise you don't know how they can clamp down. Whether we have a Dr Quick there or send one over to investigate, they would not be allowed free access. China had a lid on it and that was that.

that is why having a scientist doctor embedded there is needed.... why Bush created the position after SARS I believe around 2005, and Obama continued the position.... BECAUSE China was never that honest about these diseases.

What China did by trying to hide it, was NOT uncommon for them.... we ALWAYS KNEW they lied in near all instances previously, also shut social media down to hide things and THIS IS WHY we created the position there in China.

WHICH makes great sense!

In theory you are correct, but in practice, China has "minders" that keep the US folks under strict control as to where they can go and what info they have access to. So since 2005 that position did what? Not much. There are better places for Dr. Quick to use her talents every day.
