The US’s transition to electric vehicles could require three times as much lithium as is currently produced for the entire global market, causing needless water shortages, Indigenous land grabs, and ecosystem destruction inside and outside its borders, new research finds.

It warns that unless the US’s dependence on cars in towns and cities falls drastically, the transition to lithium battery-powered electric vehicles by 2050 will deepen global environmental and social inequalities linked to mining – and may even jeopardize the 1.5C global heating target.

But ambitious policies investing in mass transit, walkable towns and cities, and robust battery recycling in the US would slash the amount of extra lithium required in 2050 by more than 90%.

In fact, this first-of-its-kind modeling shows it is possible to have more transport options for Americans that are safer, healthier and less segregated, and less harmful mining while making rapid progress to zero emissions.

The research by the Climate and Community Project and University of California, Davis, shared exclusively with the Guardian, comes at a critical juncture with the rollout of historic funding for electric vehicles through Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Acts.

They'll find it's unworkable on their fake timeline and outlaw evs too.....

Did you say 2050? If we are still stuck with relying on Lithium batteries by then it will be some sort of plot by big lithium.

Have any of these idiots realized there is another alternative? Just stop having babies and let the world population slowly drop back down to say 4-6 billion. Fewer people, far less need of resources and far less pollution and climate impact.

  • What will these pinheads do when we then exhaust our lithium supplies?

  • Has it occurred to anyone that by 2050, we may have totally transcended battery electric cars for far better technology?

  • Has even one of these "experts" realized that to a large sector of the world's population already living in a great energy deficite unable to get energy even for basic living, that these electric cars will place transportation even farther out of their reach while jacking up the cost of and demand for electricity far higher?

  • EVs require tremendous amounts of lithium, copper and other precious metals, greatly ramp up the demand for strip mining the planet, and TRIPLE the demand for electricity at a time when the grid is already at its peak max capacity, we would need to replace all the copper wiring in the country, build massive new numbers of step down transformers that take 25 years to build, and quadruple our energy production requirements at a time when all of our best energy sources are being abandoned--- coal, nuclear energy, natural gas, at a time when building new nuclear plants isn't even being discussed, to make EV cars and such which are wholly inadequate for heavy industry or in cold climates with harsh winters!

Did not think that they would allow this already well known information to leak out yet to the Sheeple and Normies ..

Unless this is an opening for a follow up campaign either claiming an alternative battery type of material or a huge change in battery size and efficiency ?

Or , even more speculative , a new propulsion route altogether . Keep watching .

My favorite part of the article ...they hinted at their plans for limiting western Europeans mobility and how easy it's gonna be ...

The educated experts revealed thier plans a few months ...I posted the thread

What greenies have in mind are crowded and dangerous public transportation for the masses

After demanding that every switch to EV’s they will then use the shortage of batteries as the reason for pushing everyone into riding the bus

It's about time. It's just math.

It looks like there's plenty of lithium available.
That's hilarious. It's not that hard to figure out what's coming. There's a reason no one who believes EV's and renewables are the future has ever put pen to paper showing their plan for how their goals are achievable... they aren't achievable. It can't be done. So instead everyone dismisses reality and rushes headlong into a cluster fuck of epic proportions.
