The Democratic Establishment Knows The Party Is In Trouble
The establishment Democrats know November 3rd could be disastrous for the party. Not because they expect to lose congressional seats and the presidency, but because they are looking at a possible big win on Election Day.
History has shown the Democrats why their lives are much more pleasant when the GOP holds the congressional majority and the presidency. Democrats who have made a career serving in congress know they can relax and coast to reelection because they can show their constituents they are helpless to stop the GOP’s agenda. This is true, even if they’ve voted regularly with the GOP and against the interests of their constituents. After all, few voters are willing to do the research necessary to learn the voting records of their congressmen (and women).
But, the Democrats’ party leaders and those in congress who spent their many years serving Big Business and the ruling billionaire class understand those many years of goofing off will come to an end if Status Quo Joe becomes president and the Democrats win the majority in both chambers of Congress.
It’s not that they actually care about the well-being of their constituents, but like the congressional Republicans, the long-serving Democrats don’t care if average Americans live or die. Most of those long-serving Democrats voted with the Republicans to start useless and endless wars, to repeatedly cut or eliminate corporate taxes and the taxes of the ruling billionaire class, and provide hundreds-of-billions-of dollars in corporate wealth-fare. Despite the denial of the right-wingers or the consistently right-leaning centrists, none of those policies benefit average Americans.
The Democratic hierarchy pushed hard to get Status Quo Joe as the party’s 2020 presidential nominee. Their belief was, the right-wingers’ and most centrists’ racial hatred for President Obama would carry over to Status Quo Joe and keep the executive branch under Republican control. The same voters would retain the GOP’s Senate majority, which would make the political balance in the House unimportant. After all, the Democrats are usually willing to cooperate with the GOP when the major political contributors’ needs are at stake.
In reality, the Democrats have no desire to take the fall for the mess that’s been made by nearly four years of policy-making by the impeached president trump and the Republicans’ Senate majority. As the minority party in the Senate, House Democrats knew all legislation they passed, which was beneficial to average Americans but against corporate interests and those of the ruling billionaire class, would safely die in the Senate.
Democrats are well aware of history and know the centrists expect four years (or more) of Republican damage to be repaired immediately. If there is no COVID-19 vaccine and the economy hasn’t reopened and snapped back to pre-pandemic status by Inauguration Day, the centrists quickly become disgusted with the Democrats’ failure and will be eager to return the GOP to control in the mid-term elections, to start the misery all over.
So, it’s easy to see why most congressional Democrats want to maintain the status quo, and do it without Status Quo Joe’s rapidly advancing dementia and an influx of young and ambitious freshman Democrats in 2021. The Democratic establishment fears these youthful and idealistic gladiators will rock the government’s decades-old boat in the same way as AOC and her squad.
