1.There is the cautionary tale about hardworking parents who provide too much for their children, and those children raise spoiled kids who lose it all: “Shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations.”
Work hard with the correct principles, become successful.....but then the good life makes the next generation lazy, they no longer behave as earlier ones, and lose it all.

It is possible that our civilization has been too successful, provided too much of the good life, and has resulted in generations who have forgotten how we got to this point….

…and are in danger of throwing it all away?

It seems that same pattern applies to human history. Once, humanity was guided by ancient Mesopotamian and Near-Eastern cultures and religions. Then, the sea-change, the Judeo-Christian faith which gave us Western Civilization….Seems like three millennia is pretty long for that ‘second generation’ of building Western Civilization. What comes next? Get ready for that third ‘generation’ and a return to a world that honors neither God, nor the human life he created.
A civilization that feels that it is God.

2. In the Old Testament chapter following the Noah and the flood story, 8.1 …and God caused a wind to blow across the earth and the waters sub- sided.

God, the Creator of nature, is fully in command of the forces He created. Unlike the gods in other ancient flood narratives, He is able to stop the flood as soon as He wishes. By contrast, the gods of the Mesopotamian flood story could not stop the waters they had unleashed, and they themselves became scared of what they had unleashed….[The Bible makes clear] that Nature, whose manifestations (the sun, the moon, rivers, springs, and so on) pagans worshipped as gods, was created by, and subservient to, God. Because the whole [pagan] world worshipped nature, …

The people we call pagans were not stupid. They were simply untouched by biblical ideas. In the West, we are now living in a largely post-biblical world, which means much of mankind might well revert to many pre-biblical pagan values and beliefs. One such example is the elevation of nature to a god-like status…. [with the result that] human beings cease to have the special value posited by the Bible. The Bible has a theocentric (God-centered) and anthropocentric (man-centered) view of the world. As the theocentric view collapses, so does the anthropocentric.

… human worth is dependent on there being a God …”
Prager, “The Rational Bible”

3. Leftism is the religion of the secular world, and part of its required belief is that human life has no value. "We must rid ourselves once and for all of the Quaker-Papist babble about the sanctity of human life." Leon Trotsky
Communism, socialism, Progressivism, whatever it is called...
As true to their word, the secularists killed well over 100 million men, women and children during their ascendancy, and over 60 million unborn to date.

4. Environmentalism is a combination of communism and nature-worship.

Michael Crichton, in his “Environmentalism as Religion” remarks
, made before the Commonwealth Club, in San Francisco in 2003, summed it all up.
“The believers in environmentalism believe and preach that we should live in unity with nature, or the environment. They believe that in the beginning we did. They believe that we are now living in sin because we have polluted the earth. We will be visited with a judgment day and the judgment will be death, for the whole planet, unless we repent, (which means to turn around and go the other way) and make our way back to sustainability. You see, in the environmentalism religion, sustainability IS salvation.””
Michael Crichton

5. Now…..as for the secularists leading civilization back to the nature-worship of by ancient Mesopotamian and Near-Eastern cultures and religions, it is easily demonstrated.

This is the sort of thing the neo-pagans and government school produce:

"The Earth Is Just as Alive as You Are
Scientists once ridiculed the idea of a living planet. Not anymore.

Life in the Amazon does not simply receive rain — it summons it.

Faced with this preponderance of evidence, it is time to revive an idea that was once roundly mocked: the Gaia hypothesis. Conceived by the British chemist James Lovelock in the early 1970s and later developed with the American biologist Lynn Margulis, the Gaia hypothesis proposes that all the living and nonliving elements of Earth are “parts and partners of a vast being who in her entirety has the power to maintain our planet as a fit and comfortable habitat for life.”

Over time, however, scientific opposition to Gaia waned. In his early writing, Dr. Lovelock occasionally granted Gaia too much agency, which encouraged the misperception that the living Earth was yearning for some optimal state. But the essence of his hypothesis — the idea that life transforms and in many cases regulates the planet — proved prescient and profoundly true. We and all living creatures are not just inhabitants of Earth, we are Earth — an outgrowth of its physical structure and an engine of its global cycles. Although some scientists still recoil at the mention of Gaia, these truths have become part of mainstream science.

“It’s definitely time to revisit Gaia,” said Adam Frank, an astrophysicist at the University of Rochester."

6. Paganism, communism, and nature-worshiping environmentalism all run counter to the doctrines that produced Western Civilization.

It is hard to understand how any sentient human being can miss the connections. Or, than none of those beliefs lead to successful outcomes.

Nature Mag Admits Global Warming Scam is Communism
How long has the Right been telling the simpletons that the Global Warming scam is really just one more iteration of communism???
Well…dang, turns out we’re just as correct as when we told you that Bill Clinton was a rapist, and Hussein Obama was a total failure.

”STUDY in Nature: Global wealth redistribution, economic ‘degrowth’ needed to fight ‘global warming’

New study claims economic systems must be restructured to fit 'within planetary boundaries.'
Paper urges "moving beyond the pursuit of GDP growth to embrace new measures of progress. It could also involve the pursuit of ‘degrowth’ in wealthy nations and the shift towards alternative economic models such as a steady-state economy."

"We apply a top-down approach that distributes shares of each planetary boundary among nations based on current population “

7. In the earliest of civilizations, mankind worshiped nature or gods that were part of nature. With the Judeo-Christian faith, the roots of Western Civilization worshipped one God who was outside of and in control of nature.

Now, with the primacy of secularism, the anti-religion-religion, we are about to regress to the primitive views.

"UNITED NATIONS — Bolivia will this month table a draft United Nations treaty giving “Mother Earth” the same rights as humans — having just passed a domestic law that does the same for bugs, trees and all other natural things in the South American country.
The bid aims to have the UN recognize the Earth as a living entity that humans have sought to “dominate and exploit” — to the point that the “well-being and existence of many beings” is now threatened…. It also establishes a Ministry of Mother Earth, and provides the planet with an ombudsman whose job is to hear nature's complaints as voiced by activist and other groups, including the state.UN document would give 'Mother Earth' same rights as humans

“In our contemporary era, Earth Day has become the modern celebration of Gaia. Partakers of this event, whether aware of it or not, play off the ancient pagan beliefs of a Universal Mother. Like the sacred oaths taken in her name, today’s Earth Day celebrants sign environmental petitions, make pledges, and announce resolutions in support of Mother Earth. And like the old sacrifices to the deity, today’s Earth Day practitioners offer sacrifices of “good works” to the planet. Not only is the Earth a deity to be venerated, but the Earth itself – as the representative and embodiment of the Goddess – has become a modern day idol.” All For Gaia: Earth Day and Total Transformation for a Post-Christian World « Forcing Change

And our liberal friends actually voted for a man they called god, Obama, who selected regulatory czar Cass Sunstein has suggested that animals have the right to lawyers, and advocated that animals have the right to sue humans in court: “Animals should be permitted to bring suit, with human beings as their representatives …”

A typical PoliticalChic post, take an issue, politicize it, and divide the world into good guys (religious in this case) and bad guys (environmentalists) on the other. If I recall my Bible correctly, God tells us we are to be good stewards of the Earth and that is what the environmentalists strive to do. There have been plenty of man-made, ecological disasters and trying to avoid future ones are in everyone's interest. Are there fanatical environmentalists? Sure, every group has them, but they are on the fringe of the movement and not representative.

Indeed.

I found great wisdom in the words of the finest President in the last hundred years.

In his 1975 speech to CPAC Ronald Reagan said that, “Our people look for a cause to believe in. Is it a third party we need, or is it a new and revitalized second party, raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people”.

I don't worship nature, but rather the God that created nature.

You, as one of the least astute, regularly require concepts spoon fed to you.

Environmentalism: the movement has been hijacked by those whose main motivation is the devolution of America, or to accomplish government ownership and control of our energy supply. Sometimes called the “Watermelon Effect,” it is made up of the ‘green’ pro-environment policies on the outside, hiding the red Marxist redistributive policies on the inside.

Don't follow leaders, watch the parkin' meters - Bob Dylan.

Is there only one flavor of conservative? Nope, there are religious, social, and economic conservatives that don't necessarily share all their values. Same is true of the other side. I wish to give my kids a better world than I received (anyone NOT agree?) and eliminating toxic chemicals, acid rain, and other pollutants are a good start. A sustainable society is exactly that, we don't degrade our world for our kids. Taking more water out of an aquifer than gets put in means that situation is temporary and we are draining it today and borrowing from the future.

It's not politics, it is common sense.

What sort of moron believes that the other side, conservatives, don't breath the same air as you Democrats, or eat the same foods, or walk the same earth.

Yet....you actually buy that environmentalism is one side wanting the purity of the above, while they simply use the pretext to control the world.

1.“…when land is public, or if it can be made quasi-public with so many regulations attached that most property rights are removed, people can’t afford to fight, having lost the better part of their wealth. So ideally for the movement, regulations should be almost infinite in reach and so imprecise as to be interpreted in a dozen ways. All that‘s needed to force these regulations is sufficient documentation of collapse, supported by books, movies, documentaries, museum exhibits, cartoons, newspapers and magazine stories, the devotion of fervid columnists, et cetera, ad infinitum, to convince the public that “something must be done.” This “feeling” is backed by slightly more substantive hundred-page full-color glossy PDFs aimed at policy makers and politicians.” Nickson, “Eco-Fascists,” p. 170.

2. Holly Fretwell is a Property and Environment Research Center (PERC): Senior Research Fellow, and an adjunct professor at Montana State University. She spent a year auditing the health Forest Service’s 446 million acres under it and the Bureau of Land Management’s command. The effect of fifteen years of sequestration of public lands has been a disaster. Thinning, salvage harvesting, cleaning deadfall are expressly forbidden by environmentalists, the areas are considered by the Forrest Service itself to be in immediate danger of exploding in a once-in-a-millennium fire that would burn so hot that not only would the seeds in the soil die, but also the dirt itself would be burned to dust. Fretwell, “Who is Minding the Federal Estate?” p. 54.

3. Of course, having been programmed via the indoctrinaton of government schooling, most would deny that big government is a form of feudalism, e.g., where the king was the owner of all the land.

“…one out of every two acres in the West is federally owned. In Nevada, the figure is 81.1 percent; in Alaska, 61.8 percent; in Utah, 66.5 percent; in Oregon, 53 percent. In Connecticut and Iowa, the federal government owns 0.3 percent of the land.

“The federal estate is larger than France, Germany, Poland, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom combined,” said Robert Gordon, a senior adviser for the Heritage Foundation. “It is too big and was never intended to be preserved as one big park, but the left is strangling use of it and with it, rural America.” Hold your horses: Nevada standoff reveals bigger fight over federally owned land

Now.....to get back on point:

8. There is a vast difference between worshiping nature, as the ancients did, and worshiping the God of the Bible. Here is the result of each:

“…the great British physicist (and atheist) Stephen Hawking put it, “We humans [are] mere collections of fundamental particles of nature. There is a great difference between being created in God’s image and being a collection of particles.

As nature is elevated, human worth is reduced. And humans are reduced to the status of animals. What inevitably follows is the equation of humans with animals. Humans are increasingly described as “other animals,” as in the commonly used expression, “humans and other animal. . . .”
Prager, Op.Cit.

It is about the inherent value of human life versus seeing humans as no different, no more valuable, than any other living thing. An earlier secularist makes the point: "We must rid ourselves once and for all of the Quaker-Papist babble about the sanctity of human life." Leon Trotsky

And, a contemporary secularist, Cass Sunstein, the Administrator of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs in the Obama administration:
"Environmentalists do not believe that human beings should destroy any part of nature, except under extreme circumstances. They think of animals as individuals, not as populations. For them, interdependence of humans and nature means equality...It is a denial of human nature....placing humans on the same level with the rest of creation."
Kaufman, "No Turning Back," chapter two.

"Sunstein is a radical animal rights thinker, who believes that animals such as dolphins and whales should have legal representation. Sunstein counts Princeton philosopher Peter Singer among his closest friends. Singer believes that children under the age of seven do not have sufficient rationality to count as human beings, and for that reason parents could commit infanticide. "
Glenn Beck Exposes Three Scary ObamaCare "Czars"

One can see the bridge from secularism to nihilism, where human life is no more worth protecting than that of any animal.
Modern secularists, Liberals, believe what Mesopotamian and Near Eastern ancients did, hence abortion is met with a shrug.
“The belief human beings are sacrosanct comes from the Bible—specifically, from the belief that man is created in the image of God. …[For Leftists,] Man is nothing more than stellar dust. If there is no God, humans are no more than one part of the ecological system—and a destructive part of it at that.”
Prager

This is the difference between an advanced culture such as Western Civilization, and that of the ancients, pagans, savages....communists.

It has nothing to do with 'understanding the universe.'

Why is his understanding of the worth of human life better than mine?

Of course, it isn't.

9. While the Judeo-Christian faith propels Western Civilization forward, totalitarianism does the very opposite. For environmentalism, humans are a disease that must be controlled, and, in fact, reduced in size.

We see that in the paganism of earlier times.

In chapter 9 of the Hebrew Bible God says the same thing to Noah’s family that He said to Adam and Eve… “Be fertile and increase and fill the earth.”

“…God’s first desire and commandment is that man repopulate the earth. This is the very opposite of the gods’ desires in the other major Near Eastern flood story, the Gilgamesh Epic. In Vicroi Hamilton’s words: “[The Gilgamesh Epic] concludes on a note exactly the opposite of the biblical story. It says overpopulation is the earth’s primary problem, hence the need for population control,…” Prager

Obama, the infanticide President, chose John Holdren as his ‘science adviser.’ We see the influence of paganism in a book that Holdren wrote:
“Forced abortions. Mass sterilization. A "Planetary Regime" with the power of life and death over American citizens…. These ideas (among many other equally horrifying recommendations) were put forth by John Holdren, whom Barack Obama has recently appointed Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Assistant to the President for Science and Technology, and Co-Chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology -- informally known as the United States' Science Czar. In a book Holdren co-authored in 1977, the man now firmly in control of science policy in this country wrote that:

• Women could be forced to abort their pregnancies, whether they wanted to or not;
• The population at large could be sterilized by infertility drugs intentionally put into the nation's drinking water or in food;
• Single mothers and teen mothers should have their babies seized from them against their will and given away to other couples to raise;
• People who "contribute to social deterioration" (i.e. undesirables) "can be required by law to exercise reproductive responsibility" -- in other words, be compelled to have abortions or be sterilized.
• A transnational "Planetary Regime" should assume control of the global economy and also dictate the most intimate details of Americans' lives -- using an armed international police force.

… in the book Ecoscience, co-authored in 1977 by John Holdren and his close colleagues Paul Ehrlich and Anne Ehrlich.” John Holdren, Obama's Science Czar, says: Forced abortions and mass sterilization needed to save the planet

It has nothing to do with 'understanding the universe.'

Why is his understanding of the worth of human life better than mine?

Of course, it isn't.
If his understanding is based in reality and yours is based on being created in God’s image, I say his understanding is superior. Have you ever seen God's image?

10. Call it communism, or environmentalism, or Progressivism, of simply government control, might makes right, it is a return to a far earlier time for mankind.

“On the excellent webcast Uncommon Knowledge, Czech president Václav Klaus recently compared “two ideologies” that were “structurally very similar. They are against individual freedom. They are in favor of centralistic masterminding of our fates. They are both very similar in telling us what to do, how to live, how to behave, what to eat, how to travel, what we can do and what we cannot do.” The first of Klaus’s “two ideologies” was Communism—a system with which he was deeply familiar, having participated in the Velvet Revolution in 1989. The second was environmentalism.
The Varieties of Liberal Enthusiasm

It is no accident that April 22, Earth Day, is also the birth date of Vladimir Lenin, an acolyte of Karl Marx, the lunatic who invented communism as an alternative to capitalism. Earth Day is naked communism. To begin, it substitutes a worship of the Earth, Gaia, for the worship of God, creator of the universe and the instructor of moral behavior for mankind. The Earth does not demand a moral code of personal behavior. While America was established to ensure “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”, environmentalism exists to exert more and more control over our lives by limiting our choices, our liberty.

Warning Signs: The Naked Communism of Earth Day

It is very possible that civilizations have cycles, they rise and fall. It may simply be a reality of human nature:

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage."
Alexander Tyler 1787
