The Covidian Cult (or climate change)

One of the hallmarks of totalitarianism is mass conformity to a psychotic official narrative
. Not a regular official narrative, like the “Cold War” or the “War on Terror” narratives. A totally delusional official narrative that has little or no connection to reality and that is contradicted by a preponderance of facts.

Nazism and Stalinism are the classic examples, but the phenomenon is better observed in cults and other sub-cultural societal groups. Numerous examples will spring to mind: the Manson family, Jim Jones’ People’s Temple, the Church of Scientology, Heavens Gate, etc., each with its own psychotic official narrative: Helter Skelter, Christian Communism, Xenu and the Galactic Confederacy, and so on.

“The language of the totalist environment is characterized by the thought-terminating cliché. The most far-reaching and complex of human problems are compressed into brief, highly selective, definitive-sounding phrases, easily memorized and easily expressed. They become the start and finish of any ideological analysis.” — Thought Reform and the Psychology of Totalism: : A Study of “Brainwashing” in China, 1961

Love your quote . I was also an balanced despiser for 25 years plus. In 2020 I finally felt that one party ( the repubs) really was a lesser evil at least in the short run. In the long term ifeel that a congress made up of 10% third parties could be far more functional than what we currently have.

It would not do any good the way they have it set up. It costs hundreds of thousands to be on certain committees and the independant would most likely not get the corporate sponsorship for those. It is a shame and a disgrace but it has all just turned into a money game there.

Another thought is campaign finance limits, the lower the better. This would give other parties an equal opportunity AND force voters to actually do their homework

We all know that there are a good percentage of people who may make fine politicians that will never see the light of day because of the establishment in each party.
