Hurricanes typically are fewer due to the crosswinds set up by the warming El Nino, which just abated about 30 days ago.
(Pacific Typhoons had a bigger than avergae 2018 season including 29 storms, 13 typoons, and 7 super typhoons.)

Same with the whimsy of Tornadoes.

Neither is proof against warming, or that the planet can't have less when it's even 3 degrees warmer than now.
