American companies locate in Canada even though minimum wages are higher here, because our work force is better educated, health care benefits for workers is 1/4 of the cost for similar benefits in the US, and we have better infrastructure.

NAFTA is a fair deal. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t need tweaking, especially in relationship to IT and dispute resolution.

The US keeps going to the Tribunal over softwood lumber, claiming the stumpage fees paid by companies harvesting timber on Crown Lands are receiving an unfair “government subsidy”. The US government has lost every case and been forced to return all tariffs collected to Canada but Trump has filed yet another complaint with the Tribunal.

There needs to be some sort of regulation that you can’t keep filing the same dispute over and over unless there have been material changes to policies since your last submission.
