Texas beaches are full of poop

Several beaches along Texas' Gulf Coast have "potentially unsafe" water quality, with much of the contamination stemming from fecal matter and sewage system runoff, an environmental report released this week found.

Cole Park's beach in Corpus Christi and Sylvan Beach in La Porte were among some of the state's worst offenders where fecal matter contamination was deemed "unsafe" nearly 60 percent of the days they were tested in 2020.

Texas beaches as a whole were mostly worse than the national average, with 82 percent of the 220 beaches tested in the state being listed as "potentially unsafe" on at least one day last year, according to the Environment America report.

According to Texas public health officials, swimming in contaminated waters can cause serious illnesses, including gastrointestinal illness, respiratory disease, or ear and eye infections. Cole Park's beach tested positive for fecal contamination on 62 separate days in 2020, the highest of any location in Texas.

The Texas State House is also full of poop. All the Texas government can do is go after women to make sure their crotches are correct, gays, and minority voters. There is no energy left to inspect places where ammonium nitrate is stored, shore up the flooding spots around Houston, make sure that all Texans have health insurance, and that all Texans are vaccinated.

It's a shame about the Gulf Coast, though. I haven't been there since I was a teenager, but it is beautiful, except for the millions of Portuguese Men-O'-War.

Yeah, they should pay attention to the excellent public health sanitation in San Francisco.
Well, what is the solution of this problem?

Other states with beaches that showed an usually high concentration of fecal matter included Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Ohio and Oregon

It has control over what they dump into the Gulf.

Sure, but the shit warnings are just for Texas, not all of those other states and countries. Why do you think the problem is only found in Texas waters?

They test their water the same way Texas does, and don;t have that problem. If Texas bothered to get ahead of the problem, something would have been done before they had to shut down so many beaches.

Actually...

"The Submerged Lands Act (SLA) of 1953 grants individual States rights to the natural resources of submerged lands from the coastline to no more than 3 nautical miles (5.6 km) into the Atlantic, Pacific, the Arctic Oceans, and the Gulf of Mexico. The only exceptions are Texas and the west coast of Florida, where State jurisdiction extends from the coastline to no more than 3 marine leagues (16.2 km) into the Gulf of Mexico."
