SAN FRANCISCO — How about an automobile that can keep pace with a $1.4 million Ferrari LaFerrari supercar for about one-tenth the price?

That's the latest proposition from Tesla, whose electric sedans will now be capable of hitting 60 miles per hour in a scant 2.5 seconds, or about twice as fast as a Bentley Continental Flying Spur and on par with Ferrari's latest state-of-the-art machine.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the news of more powerful batteries to power the most capable versions of its electric cars Tuesday, including a range now topping 300 miles per charge. On a conference call, Musk noted the new top-of-the-line Tesla Model S P100D sedan, with aptly named "Ludicrous" mode, will cost $134,500. The Model X P100D crossover with the same high-performance option will cost $135,500 and will hit 60 mph in 2.9 seconds.

I know that battery uses a lot less fuel than gas and so there is no emission to add to the climate problem, but has any credible battery and longevity expert for batteries, done any true testings on the Motors of these cars? I know that when Lithium ignites, it does not go out, even in water, so could it be possible that a Lithium battery in these motors could ignite somehow, even accidently?

Like he said, 'Always, safety first.' Even with love, sex and marriage.

Love and Marriage go together like a horse and carriage.

If Planned Parenthood Federation took the wisdom of Mr. Sinatra and began teaching them to the women who go there for advice, maybe many women would forego the marriage part.

Lithimum ion batteries are a fire hazard. When you make an electrochemical device whose energy density approaches that of high explosive, you will face risks. The chemical reaction lithium undergoes when in contact with water releases enormous amounts of heat. Trying to put a lithium fire out with water is like trying to douse your campfire with gasoline.

ALL batteries carry a fire risk.

Enviro-liberal's still haven't figured out the energy to charge the batteries mainly comes from coal fired power plants which create massive amounts of pollution.

Not to mention that the worn out batteries are an environmental landfill nightmare to dispose of safely. .......

Don't be placing Mr DPR112YME amongst environmentalists or liberals. He's just a bit shy on a technical education.

However, a gasoline powered car does nothing without burning gasoline. At least some fraction of the energy used by a Tesla is produced by nuclear, wind, solar, hydro or some other non-fossil fuel source. There is also some tremendous scale efficiency between a 200 hp gas burner and a 20 gigawatt power plant. So, we're better off with Teslas than Ferraris.

The Tesla S already beats the Challenger Hellcat. But then again, Chrysler/Dodge/Ram/Jeep are nothing more than POS Fiats.

Thank God power plants are leaving the coal equation out for cheaper natural gas.

My Tesla in San Diego receives 100% of it's energy from the sun.

EV's are ghey.......nobody wants them.

Plus, the for the same price, people can get a new Mustang GT350R which Motor Trend says might be the most prolific sports car they ever tested AND have enough $$ left over for a Ford Raptor truck.....6.2 litres and can roll over a Prius in a traffic jam.

And lets face it.......a man who selects a Tesla S is not what you'd call a mans man that's for damn sure. Watch who gets out of a Tesla.......the guy who never got picked for the team and spent his early years standing on the edge of the dance floor with his thumb up his ass. His purpose for buying a Tesla is to make a statement that's ghey.........
