They said that the battery would pay for itself in 7 to 8 years. The huge battery at Hornsdale in South Australia paid for itself in less than 2 1/2 years. And is making money for it's owner hand over fist, and reducing to cost of electricity to the consumer there.

Tesla plans to make most of the 4680 batteries for use here in the US in the US. They will also be producing them in other nations, and have licensed other battery producers to also build them. They foresee a vast market for them both vehicles and energy markets.
