No kidding. I know the cold weather of late is weather, but the frequency and depth of the cold is starting to look like climate change.

Pravda: ‘Scientists Now Warn Of A New Ice Age’ As Temperature Plummets to – 80°F In Russia

  • In Russia Moscow celebrated the coldest orthodox Christmas in 125 years.
  • Snowfall paralyzed the city of Istanbul, Turkey.
  • Massive snow falls across the Balkans, Italy and Greece.
  • Dozens of Europeans have since frozen to death.
  • Northern Albania villages have been cut off by 120 cm of snow.
  • A temperature of -62°C (-80°F) was recorded in Chanty-Mansijsk (Russia).
Arctic conditions spread deep into the Mediterranean

These are all odd events when considering the “consensus” forecasts made 15 years ago, which warned that snow and ice would become rare.

In fact many scientists warned that Mediterranean conditions would spread into northern Europe. Lately, however, just the opposite has happened: Arctic conditions have plunged down into the Mediterranean!

Even worse, there is no end in site for the harsh European winter conditions, German mass circulation daily Bild writes here.

Warning of an impending ice age

So in the face of all the earlier global warming predictions, it is now only ironic that yesterday the German-language Pravda TV site here published an article warning of an impending ice age. The article cites Yale scientist Wei Liu and a recent paper he published on the “overlooked possibility of a collapsed Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation“. Should the ocean heat conveyor collapse, then there would be “a prominent cooling over the northern North Atlantic and neighboring areas, sea ice increases over the Greenland-Iceland-Norwegian seas and to the south of Greenland.”

Simple explanations are the sustenance for simple people.

like global warming this is being overdone. The 1600s mini-ice age was not much of an ice age in terms of glaciers.

Oh look, a "weather = climate" fallacy, and a cherrypicking fallacy.

None of the normal people are screaming that the current warmth sweeping over the USA means global warming. That's because we're not morons. Only denier cultists use that idiot fallacy.

Oh look, a "weather = climate" fallacy, and a cherrypicking fallacy.
Wow, look a "I didnt read the fucking OP" fallacy and a cherry picking fallacy.

I pointed out specifically that what the article covered is 'just weather', but for thinking people, which excludes ou obviously, there is a point to which one must ask if a strong pattern of record temperatures is perhaps indicative of climate change toward COOLING.

While skating on the Thames and having 'Years with no summer" is not proving glacial growth, it did wreak havoc on the British vineyards.

It would be. Glad you agree.

However, the "strong pattern of record temperatures" is for record _high_ temperatures.

U.S. Warm Records Are Trouncing Cold Records by Over 4:1 in 2016

That's just for the USA, but the pattern holds over he whole world. New record highs vastly outnumber new record lows.

Hence, by your own standard, you're admitting the pattern is indicative of warming.

And here we have a "I didn't understand" the article fallacy. I glance at the OP and spot,

overlooked possibility of a collapsed Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation

Wow, you know what causes a collapsed Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation. Check out the article linked in the OP here,

Overlooked possibility of a collapsed Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation in warming climate | Science Advances

Like this,

Changes in the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) are moderate in most climate model projections under increasing greenhouse gas forcing. This intermodel consensus may be an artifact of common model biases that favor a stable AMOC. Observationally based freshwater budget analyses suggest that the AMOC is in an unstable regime susceptible for large changes in response to perturbations. By correcting the model biases, we show that the AMOC collapses 300 years after the atmospheric CO2concentration is abruptly doubled from the 1990 level.

So this cooling is the result of CO2 concentration, it supports "global warming", it is not an argument against it. In fact, it is the exact opposite.

Interestingly enough, one of the proposed causes of the "mini-ice age" is the slowing down of Thermohaline circulation, precisely what the OP is talking about, from Wiki under Little Ice Age

Another possibility is that there was a slowing of thermohaline circulation The circulation could have been interrupted by the introduction of a large amount of fresh water into the North Atlantic, possibly caused by a period of warming before the Little Ice Age known as the Medieval Warm Period. There is some concern that a shutdown of thermohaline circulation could happen again as a result of the present warming period

No, the unadjusted data does not support the claim that there has been warming over the past decade.

So if global cooling is supportive of Global Climate Change Theory, then what we have is a tautology that is not falsifiable and also contributes no new knowledge since the climate on our planet has ALWAYS changed.

So perhaps you would agree that Climate Change is a completely useless theory that is of questionable scientific value of any sort at all.

Jimbo, tell me, what does having the top ten warmest years, excepting 1998, since 2000 indicate? And 2014 was the warmest year on record. Until 2015, which was the warmest year on record until 2016. And how were the winters in the US during those years? Remember Snowmaggedon? No, we are not headed to a colder climate, Just the opposite. However, we are headed for weather swings that are wider and wilder with an overall warming.

By the way, got that dream job yet? Think the orange clown is going to get it for you.

Some impressive winter events have been taking place all across the northern hemisphere lately. Especially eastern and southeastern Europe have been pounded by massive snowfalls and tremendously cold temperatures. Turkey has been buried by heavy snows and extreme temperatures have gripped the entire USA and vast areas of Russia.

The global warming climate appears to have been hacked by natural factors.

Warning of an impending ice age......

Ice ages on Earth are driven by the Milankovitch cycle, the complicated wobbles of the Earth's orbit, caused (mostly) by the gravity variations from the relative positions of the other planets in the Solar System.
It just happens that, after about 500,000 years of fairly regular ice-ages (5 of them, in all), we are in a period where the 'normal' 11k year interglacial period blows out to a one-off 50k inter-glacial.
And this takes no account of the disastrous effects of mankind's little experiment with greenhouse gases.
Extreme temperature variations (both high and low) are a natural result of the massive disruption of the climate we've already caused.
Hang on to your hats, kids. Things are gonna get a LOT worse before they get better....
