Tea Party Congressman Collects Disability From His Union Job | Addicting Info\\

Representative Chip Cravaak of Minnesota was swept into office during the 2010 midterm election on the Tea Party platform. He has since voted for the Paul Ryan plan to kill Medicare, which would force seniors to rely on a voucher system which wouldn’t be likely to cover their vast health needs and costs. But did you know that he’s a raging hypocrite?

Even as he bashed unions during his election campaign, Cravaak enjoyed the benefits of being a member of one. He worked as a pilot for Northwest Air, now Delta, as recently as 2007 and being a pilot means that you are automatically a union member, thus receiving the benefits of union negotiated salaries, vacations and ultimately, disability payments. According to financial records released by Cravaak himself, the Tea Party Representative received $92,273 from disability payments in 2010 alone. So while Cravaak was busy bashing “big government” and unions, he was cashing disability checks.

I guess its OK if your on the right to fight against something while benifiting from it

Did he pay into the program as an airline pilot?

Did he serve the country?

Do you have even one functioning brain cell over and above the lizard brain that keeps you breathing?

Oh gosh really?

What he should have done, upon hearing it was a Union shop..that flew into gubmint financed airports..was to buy an island.

Then clear the land. Then mine for the ingredients for concrete then built an airport from the ground up. Then he should have mined for the metals to build a plane..built that. Then he should have constructed an oil rig. After which he could generate fuel for the airplane. Then he should have built a telecommunication infrastructure to advertise his airport.

Holy fuck. That amazingly simple enough.

Why the heck didn't you come up with that answer first?

Thanks for another steaming heap of irrelevant hyperbole.

Fact: He worked as an airline pilot and worked to receive his benefits package.

Fact: He served the country and deserves to receive the benefits that are his due.

And that "union bashing"?...I'll give odds that its the bureaucrat unions that he's been talking about, not outfits like ALPA.

Here is why this does not matter.

Are all of these airlines PRIVATELY owned?
Yes.
Do tax payers foot the bill for Pilot Union pensions?
No.

Gov't pays for empty flights to rural airports

By KEVIN BEGOS and ADRIAN SAINZ
Associated Press

On some days, the pilots with Great Lakes Airlines fire up a twin-engine Beechcraft 1900 at the Ely, Nev., airport and depart for Las Vegas without a single passenger on board. And the federal government pays them to do it.

Federal statistics reviewed by The Associated Press show that in 2010, just 227 passengers flew out of Ely while the airline got $1.8 million in subsidies. The travelers paid $70 to $90 for a one-way ticket. The cost to taxpayers for each ticket: $4,107.

Ely is one of 153 rural communities where airlines get subsidies through the $200 million Essential Air Service program, and one of 13 that critics say should be eliminated from it. Some call the spending a boondoggle, but others see it as a critical financial lifeline to ensure economic stability in rural areas.

News from The Associated Press

You might want to google a bit and see who pays for airports, tax breaks, etc for commercial airlines.

I don't need to Google to know what I am talking about.

Rural airports are not airlines.
Rural airports are usually run by small cities, large towns.
Private Airlines do not run or own rural airports.
Private Airlines do run airlines, which hire pilots.

I am not pleased with subsidizing rural airports.
Rural airports need to stand alone, unless the area is indeed so isolated, that flying is the only way in or out.

You are mixing subsidies vs taxes, private sector vs public sector.
Regardless if the airlines did receive a subsidy from the Fed, it is because the Fed WANTS the airline to keep flying. If the airline had a choice, it would not fly.

I guess the gummit also wanted teachers to keep teaching?

Are public school teacher pensions funded by our tax dollars?
Are private school teacher pensions funded by our tax dollars?

Correlation please?

Confusing PUBLIC sector with PRIVATE sector is lose-lose.

I disagree with his politics and I can see how some would see this as hypocritical, but I don't blame him one bit for collecting his qualified benefits. He'd be stupid not to. Of course it does make him look like a douche for railing against extending similar benefits to others, but that's not really hypocrisy, it's greed. His union bennies are locked-in, going forward he stands to rake in a lot more by fucking over unions than he does supporting them.

You are aware that people pay into Medicare and Social Security and all those pension programs you hate so much, aren't you?

Or are you as stupid as you sound?

The right is as hypocritical as it gets.
Apples and atom bombs.

He had a choice whether or not to pay into the pension plan, by accepting the job of airliner pilot....I have no choice, no matter my profession, whether or not a portion of the fruits of my labor will be confiscated to fund the Socialist Insecurity and Medicare scams.

We've met the stupid, Buckwheat, and it's looking back at you in the mirror.

He paid his union dues--didn't he?

So you can't be fiscally conservative and collect "disability benefits"--if you become disabled and are entitled to them---:cuckoo:

Makes perfect SENSE to me--
