It seems like every couple of weeks the Tea Party Movement is have a big rally or event. This is a bad course the movement is on. It should take a lower profile course and largely stick to grass root efforts to support candidates that hold their views or get candidates that hold their views to run for Office!

This high profile course the movement has been on allows public commentators to paint the movement as an extremist right wing movement which I am sure there are members of the movement which deserve this label but a large portion of the members are just ordinary Americans that hold mainstream conservative values. This large group of ordinary Americans believe things like in the wrongfulness of 1.4 and 1.6 trillion dollar yearly federal budget deficits and national debts which produce a half-trillion dollar per year interest payments. They believe that the unnecessary expansion of government is wrong, 9% and 10% yearly budget increases and the passing of health care legislation which creates a hundred plus new spending programs are glaring examples.

This high profile course of the movement allows them to be misused by people with ultra right wing agendas. Many members of this movement want smart and responsible government. They can understand that big financial institutions like "Lehman Brothers" if allowed to fail have a dangerous domino effect, that is, they cause a lot of other companies stock prices to drop dramatically which at least hurts ordinary Americans retirement savings and pension funds and can cause significant layoffs in these affected companies. Many of the "Tea Party" members can and do support financial regulation reform, they support the Federal Government having the ability to help and/or wind down large financial institutions to blunt their harmful economic impact from their being in trouble and who better to pay for it than the financial industry itself that makes obscene amounts of money or U.S. taxpayers? That's right "fat cat" financial institutions! - Right Wingers want to clamor about a $50 billion rescue fund for the industry; common sense would say don't stop charging the industry until the rescue fund has a balance of $300 billion! This isn't a call to support the Democrat bill on this subject because I haven't read the bill but one danger it is hoped the bill doesn't create is giving a board on panel the power to make the call to put a financial institution in financial conservatorship or take it over because the American Wall Street system can't withstand such an arrangement the system's rumor mill will produce rumors that this or these panel members believe the Federal Government should take over a certain financial institution and that institution's stock price will significantly drop and it will create instances where the Federal Government has to step-in, it will create interventions which never should have taken place; this power to make this call should be left with the chairperson of the Federal Reserve Board who the American people believe and expect to be the chief cop- on-the-beat protecting the American economy.

The other thing about the "Tea Party" movement, is that it is gaining the reputation of a movement that is all about people like Sarah Palin, that is, "right wing extremists" which is a super tragedy because American needs this movement to successfully combat "bad manifestations of liberalism" that exist in America and do it strongly over the next ten years because if America doesn't dramatically change and become financially responsible and embrace good values that balance competing interests as opposed to embracing one side or the other in this time frame, the optimal promise and hope that America has offered it's citizens and which the baby boom generation has experienced in full will be lost for at least generations and in all likelihood forever. This is no personal attack on Sarah Palin; Ms. Palin could have a compelling story and offer valued leadership to the movement but she has to get on a different path, in part, balance interests on issues. The compelling good story about Ms. Palin could be that she was an ordinary Hockey Mom that rose to be a Governor fighting for ordinary people and the right thing and against big business and special interests and continues to do so as a responsible conservative voice. In order to have this story, she needs to come out publicly that she will not run for President in 2012. To the majority of Americans Ms. Palin doesn't have the resume to be President and currently doesn't have the attributes to be President and she seems to be continually running for President which interferes with the good work the Tea Party movement is trying to accomplish. One example was her condemnation of Barack Obama and his agreement with Russia to reduce the number of nuclear bombs in each countries' arsenal. I am not saying the agreement didn't have flaws, prudent Americans think that there has to be a trustworthy mechanism where America can test their decades old arsenals to see if the missiles reliably work. Ms. Palin made the statement that essentially went like this America should have confidence in Barack Obama on this matter "yea right", where did he get his nuclear weapon experience as a community activist in Chicago. Ms. Palin is completely out of it with statements like this. Barack Obama is the President of the United States he is the commander-in-chief of a truly impressive Armed Forces that rivals any in the world and any in history, he has sent tens of thousands of Americans in uniform into a war and is a respected world statesman, he unquestionably deserves respect (this is not necessarily saying support) on national security issues which Ms. Palin did not give him!

They're going to do that anyway.

You seem to have already forgotten -- first it was dismissed, now it's outright feared.

The Tea Party is feared by the GOP

It forces them to adopt positions that may not be electable in certain districts. It also poses a threat of a third party that would give up Republican seats

that was a good read jimo. i get the impression that the tp had its origins in the too right for the republicans crowd in the first place. while they aim to pull the GOP further to the right, and out of mainstream politics, it sounds to me like your stance is that of a republican, or if you dont thrust your support head first, a conservative independent. im not sure what one would expect from a movement funded by radical right groups alienated from the GOP for their extreme stances. rather than tug at the tparty, why not mix some mortar and rebuild the republican party? to bring balance to the country's politics, real candidates with real funding and a uniform platform must be assembled. the democrats have that. the GOP is the only other organization/movement in the universe which could compete with that now or for the next 20years, minimum. the GOP does not have that, particularly with a base lacking the discipline and/or too disheartened to work within its confines.

independent voters have and do make this country great. independent parties and candidates are footnotes in the bigger picture.

I said "feared" I didn't opine as to who's doing the fearing.

I imagine every incumbent fears, no matter their stripe.

No.

The protests will get louder, longer and more intense.
