Tax Rates - States

Our state income taxes are high here in Oregon, but we don't have any sales tax. Washington, to the North, has extremely high sales tax but no income tax. California, to the south, has high income tax AND high sales tax.

The tax rates in the US seem quite 'mild' to me, even for California. In my country, I pay 18% as an income tax, to this is added so called military fee at 1,5%.

I can only assume what sales taxes in the US are and what exactly goods are taxed. Here, the level of taxation of the real estate (in the case of selling) varies widely and can be from 1% to almost 8% or even as high as 18%, depending on some factors.

The tax which is called VAT is included in almost all goods, including food and clothing, and is at the level of 20%.
