Tanzania President cancels Independence Day celebrations, directs money for the event be used to build dormitories for children with special needs

Building dormitories for special needs children may be a salutatory cause- but its not a constitutional one in America.

More of a project for charities in the private sector to embark on.

We just spent millions on a bloody funeral for an old woman who could pay for their own.
A lot better things we could have spent that money on.
Tanzania is leading the way.

Elizabeth II was your nation's ruler, not just some "old woman".

You advocate for fancy parades over feeding people. And I need counselling ?
That was a general statement, not based on this thread in particular.
But to answer your question: are we to cancel ALL celebrations, of any kind, because the money could be given to the poor instead? I guess we should then also cancel all vacations for example (or holiday as you Brits refer to them) and give the money to the poor. Where do you intend to draw the line? Or do you?
