WASHINGTON, Oct. 16 — Worried about antagonizing Turkish leaders, House members from both parties have begun to withdraw their support from a resolution backed by the Democratic leadership that would condemn as genocide the mass killings of Armenians nearly a century ago.

Almost a dozen lawmakers had shifted against the measure in a 24-hour period ending Tuesday night, accelerating a sudden exodus that has cast deep doubt over the measure’s prospects. Some made clear that they were heeding warnings from the White House, which has called the measure dangerously provocative, and from the Turkish government, which has said House passage would prompt Turkey to reconsider its ties to the United States, including logistical support for the Iraq war.

Absolute stupidity. First they were for it, now they're against it because it offends someone. What a bunch of damned pansies.

Of course, we now have the worst of both worlds. We have already angered the Turkish nationalists. Now we will anger the Armenian nationalists.

Is there any more wise foreign policy advice from Congress? What about a resolution condemning the Greeks and Azerbaijanis and Georgians?

I think a lot of these would-be Talleyrands and Metternichs would like us to withdraw immediately from Iraq, just at the point that we may have turned the corner there and have the possibility of getting a not-very-good result instead of an utter disaster.

Okay, as Churchill said, it's the worst form of government in the world except for all the others.

A resolution condemning House Dems for being spineless morons might work.

"We are ready to rule." What a freakin' joke THAT is. More like "We are ready to cave."
