The left......prosecute the innocent, free the guilty.......

There are better means of dealing with criminals than imposing civil liability on the makers of guns, including locking up violent offenders for a long time and allowing them to be sued civilly for wrongful death. We do not, as a general matter, turn a manufacturer into an insurer for everyone conceivably affected by their products. Otherwise, McDonald’s would be bankrupt from its substantial contributions to heart disease, and car makers would have to pick up the tab for the tens of thousands of fatal accidents every year.
------
Of course, stopping crime is not the goal of this legislation. Crime will continue without a gun industry, just as there are crimes involving guns in places with restrictive laws like South Africa, Mexico, and Brazil. Rather, the goal of such lawsuits is to do what cannot be accomplished through legislative means: ending Americans’ ability to defend themselves, emboldening corrupt politicians, and increasing our sense of vulnerability and servitude.

I believe the immunity gun manufacturers have is unique in the US.

Civil liability plays an important role in injury prevention. In circumstances where legislators have been unwilling to enact regulations to improve safety, dangerous products and careless industry practices are normally held in check by the possibility of civil litigation that enables injured individuals to recover monetarily. This principle does not apply to the gun industry, however, because it has obtained unprecedented immunity from this longstanding system of accountability.

That quote is a lie.......they do not have unprecedented immunity.....if they make a defective product, they can be sued into extinction...

What can't happen, is the democrats deploying their millions of democrat party lawyers to conduct legal warfare to destroy companies that did not commit any crimes....

Technically speaking, even when a criminal uses a firearm to murder or maim said firearm functioned as designed. Perhaps if a criminal tried to shoot someone and the gun exploded in his hand then he or she would have a right to sue the manufacturer. But how can we allow an end user to sue a manufacturer for a product that functioned as intended? Makes no sense.

Imagine if they can get this precedent passed.....

Car makers would be next....booze makers after that......forget "over serving," your customers in a bar, it wouldn't matter how much they drank.....any victim of a drunk driver could sue car makers into extinction...

A criminal buys a product, uses it for a crime, and you get to sue the people who make it?
I don't believe that will be the result unless the gun manufacturers sells that product to a criminal knowing he is a criminal, or makes a defective product.

It would also be a dangerous precedent for all manufacturers in this country....
It is how every other manufacturer operates.

I think you would be wrong.....the left wing judges allowed the case against Remington go forward, the product wasn't defective, and they had zero connection to the Sandy Hook shooter......

When joe biden talks about removing protections for gun manufacturers he is referencing the Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which prevents legal warfare against gun makers.....they want to remove that protection so that the democrat party legal wing can attack gun makers with the intent of simply bankrupting them with baseless law suits.
