The sunshine act is better known to be the Federal Accountability Act. It will create a user-friendly online database that details where every penny of Federal grant money goes when bills are passed. Its a step in the right direction to stopping government fraud.

Thanks to your help, the President today signed into law S.
2590, the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of
2006, better known as the "Sunshine Act"!

As you know, the Sunshine Act will require the full disclosure of
all companies and organizations that receive federal funds by
directing the Office of Management and Budget to create
a user-friendly database, searchable by
the public, that would include information regarding each
entity that receives federal funding, the amount received, how the
money is being used, and where the entity is located.

Tens of thousands of CCAGW members like you led the overwhelming
grassroots push in both the House of Representatives and Senate for
this legislation. Your e-mails and phone calls to your
Representative and Senators won the day and helped overcome the
"secret hold" placed on the legislation by powerful
Senators Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) and Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.).

You should be proud, as I am, of the pivotal role you played in
forcing Congress to open a window and let the sunshine in on the
$460 billion in federal grants and $340 billion worth of
federal contracts each year. You should also know that President
Bush recognized the contribution of CCAGW members to this
effort by inviting me and other CCAGW senior staff to attend
today's White House signing ceremony.

With the passage of the Sunshine Act, we have taken a giant step
toward creating a more accountable and less wasteful
government. Thank you again for your help in this very
important government waste battle! We couldn't have won
without you!
