(NBC) – In a major first, scientists have detected water vapor and possibly even liquid water clouds that rain in the atmosphere of a strange exoplanet that lies in the habitable zone of its host star about 110 light-years from Earth. A new study focuses on K2-18 b, an exoplanet discovered in 2015, orbits a red dwarf star close enough to receive about the same amount of radiation from its star as Earth does from our sun. Previously, scientists have discovered gas giants that have water vapor in their atmospheres, but this is

Kinda sucks you won't ever get to it like the rest of us it will be the planet the elites run to.

Planet only comes with ONE small glitch-- -- -- -- with present NASA/JPL technology, it would still take an astronaut 4.6 million years just to get there one way. Even Tang and MREs don't keep that long!

Hmmmm.....
the version of that story I read says the radiation would be significantly higher than life could stand.

But yeah....unless we develop warp drive soon, no one from this planet will ever see it up close.

Please tell me how we can see a planet circling a far away sun that looks like a dot and say there is life, clouds, water, atmosphere and the rest and we have spent tens of billions of dollars on robot spacecraft landing and circling with advanced cameras, advanced detectors of anything possible and telescopes on earth also looking at mars and have not found a molecule of life? We change the tests for it on every mission and the results are still the same.

For starters, because there is no life on Mars. We can do the other things you mentioned because we can analyze the light spectral patters those exoplanets emit much like a finger print. Certain gases in those atmospheres produce certain changes in the light we detect emanating from them. That’s how we make those determinations.

You're an elite?

The technical term for what you describe is "Guess".

Then why do we keep going there? It seems to be an addiction that every two years another mission is sent.

Because it looks like Arizona. Never mind the temp is lower than the north pole most of the time.

Exploration. Plus, to see whether there once was life on Mars. Also, to see the history of the solar system. To see if it could be colonized in the future or use it as a jump off point for further exploration. There are numerous reasons to go there.

Not to mention there is no chance that you could actually breathe properly there.
