I made a deal last week on a CAI build on a STG-58 parts kit. Someone had cut the barrel back to 17.5" so I wanted to see if it was gassed right before bragging it up too much. Sometimes when the barrels are shortened you have gassing problems but this one was GTG.
It was built using a metric EMBEL receiver and a Steyr STG-58 parts kit. I ran 40 rounds through it with no issues. Around 2.5" groups at 100 yards using SA surplus ammo. No complaints. The only thing I did to it was replace the front sling swivel for a Brit SLR swivel and add a proper Austrian STG sling.
