Steal a potato if you were Irish in 1841 and you might find yourself on a slave ship bound for Australia. The lucky Irish who weren't starved out or shipped off or murdered by the Brits after the potato famine managed to beg borrow or steal a couple of bucks for a boat ride to the U.S. just in time to be drafted into the Civil War. Lucky the Irish were a prolific race or the Brits would have eradicated them like the Nazis tried to eradicate the Jews.
