Lawyers for internet provocateur Alex Jones went to the state Supreme Court Thursday to challenge a court order in a case where families from Sandy Hook Elementary School are suing him, saying the radio host claimed the school shooting was a hoax.
At the wide-ranging hearing, justices questioned everything from whether attorneys for the families of the Sandy Hook victims overreacted to perceived threats by Alex Jones to admonishing Jones’ lawyer for suggesting sanctions against his client were only a First Amendment issue. Jones wants the Supreme Court to overturn a ruling by a Superior Court judge earlier this year that blocks early dismissal of the case.
The seven justices went well over the usual one hour limit peppering attorneys from both sides. At one point Justice Stephen Eckert told attorney Josh Koskoff, who argued for the Sandy Hook families, that they should have known what they were getting into when they sued Jones.
