Which modern US president was the greatest sponsor of state terrorism?

Top 5 descending

1. Ronald Reagan
2. John Kennedy
3. George W Bush
4. Richard Nixon
5. Barack Obama

nixon maybe reagan

I am pretty confident in my choice of Reagan. Kennedy was a real menace in Central and South America, but the era of Reagan and Thatcher was by far the worse.

My knowledge of Nixon administration foreign affairs extends to Vietnam (which he pulled out of), Cambodia (which he bombed the shit out of), and China (which he negotiated with). I might actually revise my list and put him lower.

I'd have to say Reagan, because when Bin Laden and his muhajadeen were fighting the Russians, Reagan supplied them with lots of weapons.

Later, those same weapons were used against us.

I disagree there. The Afghan Mujaheddin were not terrorists, at least not in the traditional use of the word

He did however fund Saddam Hussien, Jonas Savimbi of UNITA, the Contras, and Eritrean Liberation Front (been a populist dictatorship worse than North Korea since 1991). He also launched the invasion of Grenada when the Cuban backed PRG overthrew the government there.

Later, those same weapons were used against us.

Not really.

The warlords that fought for the Muhajadeen generally had no association with the Taliban, and those weapons continued to be used to fight the DRA and Taliban after the US stopped financing (assuming they did). I guarantee you that some were used during the invasion of Afghanistan by the Northern Alliance in 2001.

Wish they were used by the Taliban though. It would of been nice if some more US conquistadors died during the course of the occupation.

FDR, hands down.

you have to lie or be incredibly ignorant of history to pick anyone else.

egged on a country until they attacked they went to total war with another country
tried to change the laws to he could enlarge the scotus to he could get his unconstitutional laws passed
human experimentation on poor blacks.
drafted the poor and sent them to die to save his failed economic ideas
illegal imprisonment of innocent men, women, children, that lead to many of them dying, unnaturally.

and that's off the top of my head.

fdr was deeply evil and the media, dems, leftist, socialist, progs, all covered for him and turned him into a hero.

None of that is state sponsored terrorism, except maybe the detention camps.

I am not a fan of Roosevelt, but the thread question was which president was the greatest sponsor of state terrorism. Not which president was the worse.

Sorry, I do not really see any institutionalized sponsorship of terror under Franklin Roosevelt.

Ronald Reagan on the other hand had a whole doctrine of funding questionable "freedom fighters" in the third world.

living in fear of being drafted, by the state, to go kill people you don't know, ordered by the state.

it's magically different when leftist send Americans off to die...

The draft is a crime against humanity in my opinion. Roosevelt is not the only one on that list to enact the draft.

Not to defend it or anything, but it was used against the fascist armies of Hitler, Mussolini, and Tojo. John Kennedy This is opposed to John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson, which used it to fight big bad Ho Chi Mihn.

the horror of supporting freedom

mean while, obama gave money and supplies to groups on the terror list
had lunches with the people that were so fucked up that egyptians put them down

seriously, your narrow definition is off base with your list.

poor public school grade, can't think for himself.

the horror of supporting freedom

That is the ironic part.

The Contras would blow up schools and hospitals, and the Reagan administration would call them freedom fighters.

By no means is Barack Obama the greatest presidential sponsor of terrorism, but he is in my top 5.

but you cant romaticize the contras, they were nothing compared to the crimes of the Ian smith regime in rhodesia, or artheid era south africa.

the nixon doctrine virtually sanctioned terrorism in any nation in order to "fight communism", reagan was also a hollywood actor he was a puppet, you have to mention him in the same breath as thatcher. Nixon however, used third worldism, as a method of exploiting the poor in every region on earth, this meant every government that was a democracy and not 100% allied to the USA was deemed a threat.

Reagan succeeded in romanticizing the contras.
.
I have even heard people give props to Reagan for financing the contras before.

All our modern presidents have cried communism at one point or another. John Kennedy and Ronald Reagan are the two biggest offenders.

Nixon however, used third worldism, as a method of exploiting the poor in every region on earth, this meant every government that was a democracy and not 100% allied to the USA was deemed a threat.

Yeah, this behavior wasn't exclusive to Nixon either. He was not even the worse offender.

The United States history of neoimperialism is far reaching. Latin America alone, and they need to update this thing too....
