I don't need to know what misuse you put it to, but it's certainly got nothing to do with social issues or comedians. Liberalism is the philosophy that governmental power derives from the consent of the governed, through in our case a representative republic -- as opposed to power deriving from an aristocracy, clergy and the Divine Right of Kings.
