Speaking of the pandemic…

“…it's hard to shut it down when conservative leaders across the country are committed to making sure that doesn't happen. Biden, for his part, signed into law the historic $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan to ensure broad distribution of vaccines. But he can't force people to get vaccinated. He did issue vaccination and testing mandates for businesses, but those were rebuked by the Supreme Court. He also isn't responsible for conservative disinformation and efforts to thwart measures to protect people from Covid by Republican elected officials, which is the primary reason the US is still struggling with the virus in a way that some other industrialized countries aren't.”

True.
I looks like we going to go

True.
Clayton, I know that this is a political forum and everything that happens, good or bad has to be due to politics. Trump failed to grasp the significance of the virus and thus played it down. Being an election year, democrats made Trump's failure to recognize the significance of the virus a major campaign issue which cost him the election. Republicans responded as you might expect by attacking Biden's top agenda item, stopping the virus. Thus ending up with republican's opposing Biden's primary method of stopping the spread of the virus, vaccinations. However, the problems is not just political. There are other factor involved. For example.

  • Both in the US and UK as well as in France, has had anti-vax movements that goes back over 50 years that has opposed every vaccine. These people are a significant force that has been very active on social media creating anti-vaccinations conspiracy theories and creating and spreading anti-vaccination propaganda.
  • This virus originated in China. The Delta variant originated in India. The Mu variant came from Peru, and the Omicron variant came from Africa. What this is telling us is that as we open the nation up more and more to bring the country back to normal, we are going to have to deal variants from abroad. We should be supporting the vaccinations efforts around the world to reduce the number variants and programs to close the wet markets.
  • Lastly, we need to recognize that we can not totally irradiate the virus. It is going to become endemic in the US with outbreaks occurring in various areas depending on immunity. To fight this we need to have a yearly booster, hopefully combined with the flu vaccine. We also need a plan to deal with these outbreaks at the federal, state and local level to keep them from spreading across the country.
