"In 1954, the CIA overthrew the democratically elected government of Guatemala, violently reversing the progressive policies of the civilian governments. This coup was undertaken at the behest of the United Fruit Company, and it ushered in a thirty-six-year civil war that claimed the lives of approximately 200,000 civilians."

Above is how much the operation to stage a coup in Guatemala costed taxpayers....Fact of the matter is, US corporations used many countries in Central America as their personal plantations -- and they made sure there was a puppet government always in power to help them do it -- even if they had to install that government themselves....Guatemala is the perfect example....When the people there voted to regain control of their own resources -- US businesses had the CIA kick that government out and put in their own....Imagine how freaked out we get over the financial/trade influence we believe China has over us -- many people in this country literally hate the Chinese because of the undue influence we believe they have.....can you imagine if China literally did to us what the US did to so many countries in Central America -- think that would go over well?? You think there won't be lasting effects??

Often times when living in the US; one can become kind of narcissistic when it comes to topics like this....topics like how our foreign policy thru out the decades effected others outside of the US...there is a famous saying "Chickens coming home to roost" -- and a lot of the hand-wringing and bickering over illegal immigration is in large part due to chickens of this type of colonial capitalism coming home to roost or in other words; our own foreign policy actions coming back to haunt us.

I love these straw man theories. Its like a child got hold of a laptop. The best way to look after immigrants is through community action.

Okay princess.

As you are afraid to answer my question:

"Chickens coming home to roost"

Do chickens ever leave in order to come home?

They just stay in the barnyard and wander into the coup to roost / sleep.

Not like a cat that wanders afar and comes home.

Nosane homeslices?

The CIA was a corrupt organization since it's inception during WW2 and the corruption became worse as the years went by. JFK apparently authorized or directed the CIA to raise and train an illegal army to invade Cuba without consulting congress. How did that work out? A couple of years later crooked old LBJ used a fake crisis to send troops to Vietnam and let clerks and jerks in the CIA run the show while the Generals stood by. How did that work out? The CIA missed the most important event in a hundred years of "intelligence" on a pretty morning in September 2001 and nobody dared to criticize the agency which had become too powerful to control.

The people of Guatemala wouldn’t be fleeing if they had a government that worked for the people. So, dummy, if our murderous CIA hadn’t overthrown a democratically elected government and installed a heinous dictatorship, the people would stay.
