South Park Television show - South Park TV Show - Yahoo! TV

Now, me? I LOATHE South Park.

I only saw one episode of South Park I ever considered funny and that was the one about all the kids thinking one of them did 9/11 and it ends up him running into George Bush and all this. It was hilarious.

The rest! I don't like South Park. And Please, I don't want to turn this into a South Park fans vs. those that don't like South Park. That's not the issue. If you like South Park fine. If you don't, even more fine (just kidding ;) )

Here's what I think is the issue:

Two things. I find it interesting South Park had no problem bashing Christianity all it wanted, and every one thinks that's soooooooooo cutting edge. But South Park turns on Islam???? And they run turn tail coward the minute they get one threat?

South Park?????? South Park turns yellow in the face of REAL controversy??

So the bad mouth boys turn out to be cowards? This just doubles my disgust for South Park.

The second issue is free speech. Every person who believes in free speech should be angry at this. This isn't muslims simply writing in to protest something they think is blaspemous, this was a not too subtle death threat.

Is this the United States of America were we are free to say and do what we want, or is this an Islamic state that must buckle under to the whim of every cleric who says "you can do that."

Southpark you turned out to be nothing but Southpunk. If you believe in free speech man up.

It's not Mat and Trey who are punking out, its the network. They tried to show Mohammed last time and the network canned the part of the episode. This time they did a workaround by mentioning him, but hiding him in a bear suit.

Still pissing off the extremists.

South Park attacks all religions....and atheists too

Comedy Central (i.e. Viacom) pussed out. Not the creators of South Park.

Just like Fox pussed out with the Muhammed Family Guy episode.

Good point. It probably is Comedy Central. I hadn't thought of that.

But can Comedy Central replace the image of Muhammed with Santa Claus or does Matt and Trey have to that?

That's what led me to believe it was South Park personally folding under the threat.

actually, they did the pretend censored episode to make fun of the nutters... if the O/P actually knew what she was talking about, she'd have known that.

I have a feeling they knew it would never get past the censors, so they self censored as to keep control of the content. So it was punking out, but punking out on thier own terms. AND they get a dig in at the censors to boot.

Anyone that actually watched both episodes (it was a two parter) would know that Comedy Central stepped in and censored the shit out of the second episode, which aired last night. They even bleeped out every mention of Muhammed, which they didn't in the first episode.

This South Park episode is partly responsible for giving me the idea for this thread, for which I'm particularly interested in what people think.

Um.... Didn't they make World Police? Which made fun of everyone including muslims and Koreans.

And they attack all religions, I saw the mormon episode the other day, and I think they made fun of non religious people, more than they did the mormons.

And someone who never watches South Park, should not comment on who they make fun of.

 I didn't see it, but THAT is funny!

Great topic. I for one am a HUGE South Park fan. And I understand some are not, and thats cool, it's a love/hate deal with South Park. Honestly, they really do hammer everyone on every topic. Right, left, gay, straight, redneck, hippie, black, white, jew, ginger, mexican, african, you name it, they've mocked it. BUT, imo, they more so mock the radicals of those groups to bring about a comical point about how stupid we all get sometimes reacting to the political correctness thing. I honestly believe South Park makes more sense of our society than Fox News or MSNBC, or any other network show.

As for the Muhammed episode, they did hammer Christianity. They've hammered mormons. They showed Buddah sniffing cocaine. And tried to show Muhammed. And the fact they had to censor it I think in itself proves another point: Of all the religions they mocked, only one resulted in serious death threats. The other believers in the religions either laughed along at that show, ignored it, or never heard of it. Take that message for what it's worth.

Team America: World Police. One of the greatest movies ever made!!!!

"We're dicks. And he's an asshole. And you're all pussies. Pussies don't like dicks, because, well, dicks fuck pussies. But dicks also fuck assholes. And nodoby likes assholes, because assholes just wanna shit all over everybody. And if you pussies don't let us fuck this asshole, that asshole is gonna shit all over everybody."

That summary of the Mid-East wars, the supporters and protestors, probably made more sense than the explanations coming from Fox, CNN and MSNBC. America's leaders and military are dicks. Liberal softies are pussies. Dictators are assholes. Pussies hate dicks and assholes. But only the dicks can stop the assholes from shitting all over everyone. Brilliant.

I've seen every episode of all 13 seasons. I know SP pretty well, own all 13 DVDs and watch them all the time (favorite show).

The 2nd half of that episode went out of it's way to constantly say the word Muhammed repeatedly, and yes, it was censored. But it's easy to see, compared to their other episodes, that this censored word was preplanned. Like the episode where they vowed to say "fuck" on cable TV. They said it like 100 times in one episode, just to make the point. The censored Muhammed word was spoken MANY times, on purpose, so I think it's been planned the whole time that the 2nd episode would be like this. It's a brilliant PR stunt by those guys. Stir the pot, create a buzz, give everyone a week to make threats or wonder if they'll actually show Muhammed, then pull this censorship prank.

That is the truest point to all of this. They received threats via a website that was cited in an article that stated their home address', facts about their property, address of the studio, and address of Comedy Central head office. The fact that Muslims take such great offense to something shown in America kills me. They can have all the censoring they want in their own country where their laws dictate that. We are not a Muslim Country. We are free country that allows Free Speach. And the fact the Comedy Central has backed down shows what kind of fear the radicals of that religion have put into the minds of everyone in this country.

I keep wondering what the lesson that Kyle and Stan learned that was beeped out.

And Comedy Central/Viacom pussied out in 2006 in the Family Guy episodes and didnt show Muhammad so I didnt expect it to happen this time around either. But seriously, going as far as to censor the word Muhammad was idiotic.

Comedy Central shat their pants, not the creators. However when watching the episode one has to understand that black box censored stuff was on purpose. However I am not sure about the most of bleeps.

Also want to shout word of disapproval at CC for caving in for Muslim religion. Fuck 'em, your viewers ain't no Muslim. Grow balls.

Well, really, its irrelevant what religion their viewers actually are or arent. If you can have Jesus watching porn, Buddha doing coke, etc etc etc... why cant you even show an image of Muhammad? Muslims cannot do it as per they faith but I sure as fuck can. One of the truly sad observations about the whole thing is that back in 2001 before 9/11 South Park actually had Muhammad in one of the episodes. But in our post 9/11 world we censor people they cannot. I find it sickening that we curb free speech like this in order to appease a group of people.
