Okay, you can't condemn an entire wing of the political spectrum based on one person, but this sort of self-loathing of the West doesn't usually pop up on the right.

"I know I´m a Jewish lesbian and he´d [Ahmadinejad] probably have me killed. But still, the guy speaks some blunt truths about the Bush Administration that make me swoon...

I want to be very clear. There are certainly many things about Ahmadinejad that I abhor — locking up dissidents, executing of gay folks, denying the fact of the Holocaust, potentially adding another dangerous nuclear power to the world and, in general, stifling democracy. Even still, I can’t help but be turned on by his frank rhetoric calling out the horrors of the Bush Administration and, for that matter, generations of US foreign policy preceding."

The Left is a broad church/temple/mosque/cathedral/meeting house/assembly hall/public and communal space..........Fortunately we're not scared of ideas. Over on our side we have some really great internal debates :D

If the Left is actually having some serious debates, that can only be a good thing. Generally, people on the Right believe that we have a much richer intellectual life than the Left do, including lots of vigorous debates on everything from foundational issues to current tactics in the war with radical Islam.

I would be interested in any links to such debates within the Left. But I do find it odd that DU are debating the UAW strike -- I thought the Left supported all strikes in the US (with the exception of the New York Teachers strike thirty years ago) although not of course strikes against socialist governments abroad. What are they debating about?

I know that you get the occasional exchange in The Nation -- they had a pro-immigration guilty-whites issue a few months ago that provoked a firestorm of protest from readers who actually had to bear the brunt of illegal immigrants. But it did not seem to provoke anything like a real debate.

And their columnist radical Bad Boy Alexander Cockburn challenged what he called the 'myth' of global warming. But that didn't seem to provoke a debate -- it was just an anomalous position held by one person. And his later challenge to his liberal friends to come out openly on the side of 'the resistance' in Iraq was just ignored, I think.

And occasionally there are thoughtful pieces in that magazine which, in passing, utter something which runs counter to Leftist group-think, like the article recently which put the AIDS problem in Africa down to African sexual habits. But I don't recall any serious response.

It was not really an intra-Left debate, but some liberal and Left scientists did a very good job of trashing the idiotic post-modernists about fifteen years ago. And these same people still, from time to time, take on the crazier feminists and Black nationalists.

And there are a few Lefties and liberals who dissent from the general liberal isolationist-pacifist-appeasement mood toward the radical Islamists. But they are so isolated that you can't really say there is much of a debate there.

However, if it is happening, great.

Really now ... and just WHEN does this happen? It damned-sure doesn't on any message board I've evern been on. All I ever see is the captain and all hands going down with the ship.

Not afraid of ideas? that explains the attempts to silence Rush and other radio commentators.

Sometimes the left is stupid. The right is stupid too.

Let's face it: People are stupid.

Actually, the left is about stifling conflicting ideas, supporting ideas which stifle whole populations, and calling themselves "enlightened" because they do so.

All I see in the lesbo's support of that terrorist is that lefties will join any thug, so long as they attack Americans. I don't find it interesting or enlightening that she supports a murderous dictator, or that she agrees with him.

do you not see the irony in both of those paragraphs, allie?

I see neither irony, sarcasm, or even ethnocentrism. Do you have a comment to make to the issue, or are you all about descriptions?

first sentence: the left are the one that stifle ideas blah blah blah

second sentence: that lesbian just likes thugs and anyone who hates america blah blah blah. there is nothing enlightening blah blah blah. terrorist blah blah blah.

The quickness with which you proved your first sentence wrong may have given you whiplash.. You might wanna go get that checked out by a nice christian doctor.

Shogun, I think you got her on the ropes. :D

If you think that post was indicative of any great victory, I understand why you guys never recognize when you're defeated in debate.

I just went to bed, and figured there wasn't any point to replying to tripe.
