When to lower the flag for Canada's war dead
CBC News Online | April 24, 2006
Four more Canadian soldiers are killed in Afghanistan and once again the flags on Parliament Hill are not lowered to half-mast.
Judging by talk shows and some letters to the editor, some Canadians are upset by this, calling it a show of disrespect for those who lay down their lives for their country. They also note that the former Liberal administration routinely lowered the Peace Tower flag in honour of a lost soldier.
But the policy the new Conservative government has adopted it also didn't lower Parliament's flags when three Canadian soldiers were killed in March is probably more in keeping with the way Canada has always looked at its fallen warriors.
