They own all the rare minerals, and they are happy to help with the "climate issue" as they take more U.S industries that would have been working in high paid, oil union jobs in the U.S, but will now be slave labour in China.

An unlikely coalition of Republicans, Democrats, and labor leaders are concerned by the solar industry's dependence on goods linked to Chinese forced labor camps, a development that threatens President Joe Biden's push for a green energy economy.

Western China's Xinjiang region—where China is forcing more than a million Uyghurs into brutal forced labor regimes—dominates the solar sector's supply chain. Nearly half of the world's polysilicon, a raw material crucial to producing solar cells, comes from Xinjiang. That economic dependency is attracting the attention of a bipartisan group of lawmakers and union heads, who cite credible reports linking the solar industry to the modern-day slavery regime.

The first volley came from AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka. A top Biden ally whose union spent millions backing Democrats in 2020, Trumka called on the White House to block solar product imports from Xinjiang due to "convincing evidence of systematic forced labor" in a March letter. Weeks later, a group of eight GOP senators unveiled the Keep China Out of Solar Energy Act, which would prohibit the use of federal funds to purchase solar panels "manufactured or assembled in Communist China."

Thus you see why they made the Energy Policy Act of 2005 they way they did, the only problem is supply chain and continued govt. financing.

Except that we don't rely on China. They don't own all the raw material. Another dumbass thread from the dumbass.

More evidence that you are a lazy ass forum member, here is what you didn't read:

Congressional Democrats are also getting in on the act. Sen. Jeff Merkley (D., Ore.) in March urged the Solar Energy Industries Association to "protect consumers from inadvertently contributing to human rights abuses abroad" by banning certain Xinjiang products. The national trade association, which represents more than 1,000 solar companies, responded by noting that it has called on its members to "completely leave the Xinjiang region by June."

China does control most of the rare Earths minerals,

China May Ban Rare Earth Tech Exports on Security Concerns

America has to IMPORT 80% of it needs from China...... :oops-28:

Your ignorance is willful since you have been caught at it too many times, you are now on ignore.

And guess who's fault it is?

That's right, Cheeto Jesus his own bad self killed the US industry that produced the stuff.

From YOUR first link you didn't read:

"In 2012, the U.S. imposed the first duties on Chinese solar cells, adding additional duties in 2014 to close a previous loophole. That same year, China finalized tariffs on U.S. polysilicon imports, slamming manufacturers such as REC with 57 percent tariffs. U.S. polysilicon manufacturers claim the tariffs were retaliatory, amounting to a full-blown trade war. They’ve been working with the U.S. Trade Representative on a solution ever since.

In the meantime, REC has cut half its workforce. Manufacturer Hemlock Semiconductor, owned in part by Dow Chemical, shuttered a $1.2 billion factory project in Tennessee. The Wall Street Journal reports that between 2010 and 2017, the U.S. share of polysilicon production fell from 29.1 percent to 11.3 percent of the global total."

Trump had NOTHING to with the massive decline, it was 100% caused by the Obama administration and the Chinese government.

Your are a poor reader and being highly partisan is making you stupid.

Afghanistan also has rare earth minerals as does Saudi Arabia.. In the US they are working on prototypes to recycle that stuff like they did with refrigerant gases in the 1990s.

There are sufficient rare mineral resources reported in Alaska alone to break China's stranglehold on today's electronics.

They are, however, locked up by Xiden Regime diktats (Executive Orders). Further evidence that this regime is beholden to China's Communist Party. Or is The Democrat Party now merely a wholly-owned subsidiary thereof?

There are have been not-so recent suggestions that there are significant deposits of a few such rare minerals in New England states but development of any sort in that area has been unthinkable for at least two generations.

There are plenty of ways to deal with China that would impact them. Question is, when or who is going to do what is necesary to absolutely change course and decouple (at least somewhat)?

America was rallying some allies to boycott the Winter Olympics in Beijing, Xi found out and warned the U.S and other Western nations and they all sunk back into their holes within an hour. As quickly as the story leaked, it disappeared. It's amazing how much bolder China is.

We have the weakest Western leadership in the history of the West. China spies, steals, throws citizens into concentration camps, openly threatens and attempts to replace the U.S dollar, AND, they send a virus to the world, and they are not only not confronted, they are rewarded with the Olympics. Now rewarded with the Paris Accord (where China can continue to poison the air for decades).

It's embarrassing, and Western citizens see it. The rise of the alpha-China male, while the West emasculates it's own to be subservient to China.

I give them credit, they saw weakness for what it was. Western leaders today would make Chamberlain look like General George Patton. Take a good look at the Western leaders of the last 25 years, they are responsible for the future that this planets humanity is going to experience.

Not only is China the world leader for using solar panels, they also produce more panels than any other country. Of all the solar panels produced around the globe, more than 50% are manufactured in China.

Photovoltaic manufacturing is a dirty, polluting business. Quartz (used in these panels) is refined into silicone however that quartz has to be extracted from mines which carry risks to miners such as lung disease and occupational hazards. Refining the silicon creates the waste product silicon tetrachloride which releases hydrochoric acid into the environment if not done properly. The boom in production of photovoltaics caused countries to be lax in rules covering this substane. More here......

Yes and they are polluting the environment.

The reason lobs rely on china for solar panels is laziness combined with economic stupidity

That and maybe a few chinese honeypots screwing the right congressmen

Do try not to expose your vast ignorance daily. This type of deposit is not limited to the area Japan has found;

"Japanese researchers say they have discovered vast deposits of rare earth minerals, used in many hi-tech appliances, in the seabed. The geologists estimate that there are about a 100bn tons of the rare elements in the mud of the Pacific Ocean floor. At present, China produces 97% of the world's rare earth metals.Jul 4, 2011"

Environmental regs in the U.S. severely limits the production of solar panels.

Thats so stupid

Freaked out libs claim they want to save the planet

But then they buy cheap and dirty solar panels from china to save a few dollars

Depends on the manufacturer. Both here and in China;

"There are several US-based solar panel manufacturers that try to source as many of their materials from the US as possible. If you buy a solar panel from a company like this, you can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of your panels.
SunPower and SolarWorld are two top US-based solar panel manufacturers and produce some of the greenest solar panels available to US customers. They follow specific standards for ensuring their products are environmentally friendly and are working to continuously mitigate their carbon footprint.
Some US-based solar panel manufacturers may not have the most sustainable practices, however, and some foreign companies may be much more environmentally friendly, so it is up to you to research the company that you are looking into."
