The ACLU never stops attacking Christianity. The ACLU always claims it is defending the Constitution; in cases of Christian symbols on public land they cite the First Amendment; i.e., the doctrine of the Separation of Church and State. That’s akin to atheists defending the Bible; atheists want to discredit the Bible, while Socialists are dedicated to abolishing the Constitution.

There are many cases where the ACLU, and Lefties in general, attack Christian symbols; the cross is the symbol they all love to hate. The three I cover in this thread are the most famous cases. The first two are attacks on the military as well as attacks on the Cross.

The first case has been ongoing for over 20 years.

After 24 years of litigation, a federal court revealed in an emotional hearing that it has ordered the famous Mount Soledad Cross removed from a veterans memorial, holding it is a violation of the U.S. Constitution.

Since 1913, a cross has stood as the centerpiece of the Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial in San Diego, surrounded by nearly 3,000 granite plaques, individually honoring war heroes from every American war, from the Revolutionary War to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Mount Soledad Cross Will Be Purged from Veterans Memorial

Incidentally, the Soledad Cross was erected seven years before the ACLU was founded; so it’s only fair that protection against the ACLU should be grand-fathered in. Frankly, a grandfather clause would prevent the ACLU from going after all of those religious symbols in Arlington National Cemetery.

There are some crosses in Arlington Cemetery. They were put there before WWI. Arlington Cemetery also allows a long list of religious emblems; so the ACLU has its work cut out in its war against the cross.

After Arlington, comes Flanders Field American Cemetery where poppies blow between the crosses row on row. Before the ACLU is finished it will look like atheists were the only ones who fought and died for this country.

Originally, there was a sensible solution for the Mojave Cross:

. . . Congress and the Bush administration devised what everyone thought was a solution. The VFW owned a plot of private land adjoining the national park. So the VFW agreed to donate a parcel of land of equal value to the parcel containing the cross, and take the land with the cross in exchange. This would be a land swap deal with no loss to the American taxpayer. The matter seemed solved.

Except that the ACLU doesn’t know how to take “yes” for an answer. They promptly scurried back to federal court and secured a second court order blocking the land transfer, opining that Congress’ move was an effort to evade the court’s earlier order. They did this to keep the cross on government land so that it would have to be destroyed. In so doing, the ACLU showed that their goal all along was not getting the cross off public land; it was instead to level the cross to the ground.

The Mojave Cross was stolen after the High Court ruling. Phyllis Schlafly detailed Barack Taqiyya’s position. Keep in mind that he went to Africa to attend the funeral of ol’ marble mouth, a Communist terrorist and a moral fraud.

President Obama had a golden Memorial Day opportunity to show the country that (contrary to his left flank) he is not anti-military and not anti-Christian, by telling Attorney General Eric Holder to order the Park Service to permit volunteer veterans to replace the Mojave Cross that was stolen on May 9. But he let the atheists and those who sneer at our veterans win the day.

As far as I know the Mojave Cross that was installed in 2012 is still standing:

I recently posted messages about this final Cross. I want to add that I believe the Twin Towers Cross generates the most hatred among the Left because over the years tens of millions will see it in Manhattan.

. . . a coalition of atheists who want the cross removed from the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York.

The cross is the result of the collapse of the Twin Towers. It is made up of steel beams twisted, sheered and re-formed by the incredible forces in the collapse of the buildings.

It was found by rescue workers in the aftermath of the terror attack and served as an inspiration for them and others.

The brief is being submitted to the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals where American Atheists Inc., Dennis Horvitz and others are appealing to overturn a lower court’s dismissal of their demands.

GOOD NEWS UPDATE

Soledad.jpg

The land under the long-contested Mt. Soledad veterans memorial cross near San Diego now belongs to a private foundation, and the monument will remain in place.

It means that other veterans’ memorials around the nation with a spiritual dimension also are safer legal ground.

“Now the land has been sold to our client,” said Hiram Sasser, of Liberty Institute, which announced Tuesday the completion of a land deal to end the challenge by the American Civil Liberties Union.

Mt. Soledad cross finally protected attorneys say

"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth"

hypocrisy fail.

To Agit8r: The cross in question is now on private property; so you should be quoting the Constitution:

First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; . . .

And yet, you also support establishing a religion on public property, so double hypocrisy fail.

Your OP, where you say that they should be protected by being grandfathered in.
To Agit8r: Now you are being cute.

Just to set the record straight. Liberals are worse than hypocrites; they are filthy sneaks who established a religion —— SOCIALISM —— and they fund it with tax dollars. I would be satisfied if Socialism is legally defined as a religion. The First Amendment would take care of the rest of it.

Geez, what a bunch of dweebs. The Supreme Court ruled on this in the 80s. I have seen bright and really big crosses removed from public property or had public funding removed if it is on private land. I have even seen the public land sold to private people with the Cross on it. If you are ever in Glenwood Springs, Co, you will see a brightly lit cross on the side of the mountain. Even after the public funds and lands were removed, it still is around but it's privately funded and on private land.

Move on, nothing to see here.

How about instead of taking the cross down they put up right beside it a 50 foot tall star of david and a 50 foot tall crescent moon with star to honor the muslim faith as well. And what about the wiccans? A 50 foot tall effigy of a witch.

The whole thing is, Christians have run rough shod over every other religion for the last 200 years and now that that is changing they are flailing their arms and feel like the ultimate victims.

Now you know what everyone else has had to live with for the last 200 years. Get used to it.
