What they and the left are opposing, IMO, is Plutocracy; a system of government and governance by the wealthy, i.e. corporations and those who benefited from the tax fraud which eliminated the top two tax brackets.
Young people are not happy with the unequal world they’ve inherited. Millennials are embracing Socialism because unfettered capitalism failed them. Many grew up in cars or tenement slums during the great recession when GW Bush's call for "deregulation" allowed financial institutions to peddle toxic mortgage packages to anyone with a pulse, and ratings institutions such as Standard and Poor's looked the other way. As the economy crashed, and things got worse, the right wing refused to agree lend even a small a hand to the many who suffered needlessly, while the few at the top became wealthier still.
Young people, along with women and minorities watched as the economy slowly healed over the next 8 years with President Obama at the helm, and witnessed 30 million Americans who previously had little or no healthcare benefits could now see a doctor without medical bankruptcy in the back of their minds. The right wing screamed SOCIALISM! of course, but they didn't care - They now had medical coverage. They also watched Donald Trump do everything in his power to strip them and their families of that protection, while offering nothing to replace it with except - "Go see your insurance man"

The extreme wealthy are currently propping up BLM and the power grabs by the left. The government and the rich will always benefit while the surfs will continue to be used and abused. Yep...that is because they have no money and they can rent a house full of furniture with nothing down. When the money dries up they let it get repossessed. They also constantly get evicted and move over and over. Same with hospital bills ...they just don’t pay them. They don’t want to save up they what everything right now and they think everything should be given to them for free.Millennials want to belong to a tribe. What they know about Socialism is that it's government taking care of all your problems. Younger people today don't want to deal with problems. It's why the last ten years or so, we have a renting problem in this country. As a landlord for over 25 years, I've never seen it like this before.
They don't want to mow the lawn, snowplow the snow, deal with a leaky roof, getting estimates on a new hot water tank, trying to figure out what's wrong with their toilet. They want to make one phone call, and their problems are solved.
